PacManPlus
Did anyone ever try converting one of these to the 5200? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Colecovision-Super-Action-Controller-Coleco-Vision-working-used-/271518304928?pt=US_Video_Game_Controllers&hash=item3f37c08aa0 Mostly concerned about the keypad being compatable. If so, are they good controllers? Edited June 11, 2014 by PacManPlus
BigO
CV controllers are quite different from 5200 controllers. The CV ones are loaded with diodes to pull of some tricks that allow it have all of those functions in just 9 pins. According to the schematics, the keypad isn't a 3x4 matrix like the 5200 so you wouldn't be able to just gut and rewire the CV controller to act like a 5200 controller. The CV joystick/directional controller is digital and the 5200 is analog, but digital controllers have been done and seem to work okay on most games. I think an external adapter using a microcontroller would be the most likely way to make the CV controller talk to the 5200. Lots of work. Based on my experience, I think a 5200 controller from scratch would be less work.
bohoki
i'd love to try it but i never see those controllers around an adapter would be quite a task a modification of one would be easier just isolate all the switches and start from scratch you still need to add s,p,r Edited June 11, 2014 by bohoki
Charlie_
Its not worth it IMO. I like it a little better than the stock CV controller, except for a few game, but its not that great of a controller.
