+Philsan
I found that Alien Garden http://www.atarimania.com/game-atari-400-800-xl-xe-alien-garden_196.html, http://youtu.be/t7km9TUfWAI an original 1982 Epyx game for Atari 800 was programmed by Jason Lanier http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaron_Lanier, American writer, computer scientist, composer of classical music, pioneer in the field of virtual reality, nominated in 2010 in the TIME 100 list of most influential people. He worked for Atari (1983-1984).
+MrFish
Interesting... I was just messing around with that game a little the other day. I've never actually played it though; it always seemed a little on the esoteric side to me.
AtariNerd
Thank you for sharing this. It's more digital generative art, thats logic can be user influenced or "played". Like the "Life" game, there may not be alot of commercial success in these experiments and they often, or at least eventually, get released into the PD, but everyone seems to have dabbled with versions of these algorythmns as programmers/developers or just as a casual user at one point. The Eyeball Mural
I only discovered the existence of this game a few months ago. It and its creator are fascinating to read about. I'd love to give it a go. I cobbled together a capture of a review for it that appeared in an issue of Electronic Games. The reviewer was a tad critical.
