Shannon
Four part question. 1. Which 5200 carts are significantly different from their Atari 8-bit computer counterparts. Whether it be graphics or gameplay changes. 2. Which XEGS carts are significantly different from their Atari 8-bit computer counterparts. blah, blah, blah. 3. Where can I find XEGS cart images on the internet? 4. Do any 8-bit emulators currently support these XEGS cart images if they even exist? Thanks a bunch. Goochman
The only game that was ported onto both systems that was vastly different was Centipede - The rest are essentially the same. The 5200 version is better IMHO. Though you could also say Dig Dug was different since the original 800 version sucked so badly they converted the 5200 port to the 8bit line and dumped the original one. All XEGS game carts are playable under Atari800Win 3.1 if you can find them.
Shannon
What's funny about the 5200 dig dug is way long ago when I had my atari. I remember getting ahold of the 5200 version (converted to the home computer), but somehow had misplaced it. It drove me crazy cause I wasnt sure where I got it, and never found it again. For years I thought it was a figment of my imagination. Also I know that the space invader graphics are supposedly different. I was wondering if there was any other I overlooked. Also some people mentioned the 5200 pacman had the intermissions, the atari official cart did not. I always had the disc based version. Is there any clue to whether a cart image is an XEGS cart? like extension, or file size? I know ".bin" is typically used for cart images, is this also the same for XEGS images? +Allan
Qix is different on the 8-bits verses the 5200. The 8-bit is horizontal while the 5200 version is vertical. There are other differences as well. Allan
Goochman
I stand corrected - Qix and Space Invaders are enhanced as well and are better versions than the 800 ones. Only Dig Dug was retrofitted back to the 800.
