Albert
I've just created a standalone TI-99/4A forum on AtariAge: http://atariage.com/forums/forum/164-ti-994a-computers/ I included a link back to the TI-99/4A Programming forum at the top of that forum. I figured there's more than enough traffic to warrant a standalone forum for discussing non-programming TI-99/4A topics. There are probably a fair number of topics in the programming forum that should be moved into this forum. Enjoy! ..Al
+OLD CS1
Is there any way to aggregate the two in one page? (And thanks, btw. It is kind-of neat to know we have that much traffic around here.)
Albert
I'm not sure what you mean by aggregating them into one page? I'm busy hunting down existing TI-99/4A topics in the Classic Computing forum and moving them into this new forum. Then I'll poke around in the programming forum and possibly move topics from there as well. ..Al
PeBo
Excellent! Always feel weird posting in a programming specific group, when I'm not....well, not quite back on the bike again yet, so to speak. It'll be nice to have a place to be more general... Also nice to see that the TI is alive and well at AtariAge.
Albert
I just moved a ton of topics into the new forum, now to pick through the TI-99/4A Programming forum, which will be a bit more time consuming. ..Al
+OLD CS1
I mean like a way to show topics from both forums on a single page, or a page which can show unread messages from more than one forums. Like an RSS aggregator or something like that -- I am a bit lazy

Albert
So, it turns out there are tons of topics in the programming forum that have nothing to do with programming. I am going to move http://ti99.atariage.com to point to the new forum. I would be happy to create another subdomain that goes directly to the programing forum if people really want that. I think it will be good to have a nice separation of the programing topics from everything else. Right now this forum is being used as a generic TI-99/4A forum, which makes it more difficult to find the meaty programming topics. I am moving non-programming threads into the new TI-99/4A forum. Please do not kill me. ..Al
Albert
Okay, here is a method of viewing both forums together. First, you want to click on "View New Content" in the upper-right corner. Once there, then click on "Filter by Forum", as shown in this screenshot (click for a larger view): This pops up a window that allows you to select individual forums. You want to select the "TI-99/4A Computers" forum, and then the "TI-99/4A Programming" forum. After you've selected both forums (you can include others if you'd like), click "Save". You will then see the results of your new filter. For instance, Clicking on the other items under "By time period" on the left is very useful. For instance, you can also see content you haven't read, topics with new content since your last visit, topics form the past week, and so forth. Pretty flexible. If at any time you want to kill this filter, click on "Filter by Forum" again and select, "Show results form all forums". Enjoy! ..Al

Albert
Not gonna happen! Well, it dawned on me that there is a fair bit of more general TI-99/4A discussion, but it was split across the "Classic Computing" and especially the "TI-99/4A Programming" forums. However, due to the title of the Programming forum, I think many people who don't care about programming are missing out on all the great topics in the Programming forum that have nothing to do with programming. What I don't want to see happen is all the great programmers ignore the new forum and stop talking about non-programming topics because they don't want to deal with two separate TI forums. ..Al
Albert
I have also moved the programming forum so it sits as a child to the TI-99/4A forum, instead of a redirect. There is now a redirect inside the Programming Forum which points to the TI-99/4A Programming Forum, which is now consistent with all the other programming forums. This makes it a bit easier to switch back and forth between the two TI-99/4A forums due to the breadcrumbs at the top of the forum. ..Al

The section was buried pretty deep, but still, from all the activity, lots of people still managed to find the place. A Google search brings up a lot of Atari Age content, which is how many people find this place.
Albert
Holy cow, this is a bit of work. Who wants moderator privileges in this forum so they can move all the non-programming topics into the new forum? ..Al
+InsaneMultitasker
The only thought that comes to mind is that the non-programming topics sometimes feed into the programming topics, so some leeway may be good. On the other hand, I also see a fair number of topics that clutter the programming discussions I'd offer to move some things around but like Thanksgiving day, I have more on my "plate" than I can 'consume' this weekend... Albert
I am here enough to take up that mantle. Actually, what I'm looking for (and I wasn't clear in my first post) is for someone to look through existing topics and move them into the general TI-99/4A forum if they have nothing to do with programming. I went through two pages, but it is a bit time consuming! As new topics are created, I can easily move them if necessary, although I doubt that will be something that happens too often. With moderator privileges, you'll see a checkbox next to each topic title, and you can select multiple topics and move them all at once. You can also move a topic that you are reading as well, but that's more time consuming. What I usually do is open a topic in a new tab if I'm not sure, and then click the check box for that topic on the topic list page if I want to move it. Once you have a batch of topics selected, you can move the topics with a popup that appears in the lower-right corner once you have one or more topics selected (there are other things you can do as well, but for this exercise someone would only have privileges to move them). Using the "Load More Topics" link at the bottom of the page, you can actually move quite a few topics at the same time, but you just need to take the time to make sure the topics should actually be moved. ..Al

At my age I have noticed that not only do I make less fun of old people, but I have become rather inflexible and curmudgeonly. Just stay off my lawn and we will have no problems.
