+wongojack
You might find something like this I worked on 5 today and added dots. 3 came back as good as could be expected. One has a ruined flex. I also gave it the worst boot. If anyone has a spare flex circuit and a boot, I'm interested - pm me. I also worked on this guy who I found nodded in the wild. The mod adds fire buttons to the top. Not very helpful really. It works, but it seems to have taken out the lower left fire button.

Keatah
I've used that technique before. It does cause some accelerated wear on the contacts on the flex circuit. On rigid boards, you'll have to clean them from time to time. Otherwise have at it!
zylon
Hmmm. I've never had to do something like that. A good cleaning has always been all mine needed, but they are always used regularly. I still run an old Rev.7 flex in my controller.
+wongojack
All 5 of these are Rev 7 and the one with the mod is pretty clean. The lower left button (aka the most used button for a right handed player) is just totally dead. No continuity from either line on the pins and the ground doesn't even connect to the button above. I can't see any damage, but I didn't take the flex out. I'm left to guess that the mod somehow damaged the traces. That controller is in good shape otherwise. The one with the bad flex had obvious damage that was immediately noticeable.
