Amityville315
I saw one on ebay, but it was sold. Archon was a favorite of mine on the Commodore 64...does anyone have info on the 5200 version? I assume it's a homebrew? That would be a great game to have in the collection. Great 2 player game.
SoundGammon
I've got both for the 8-bits, Archon and Archon II Adept. They both would make great 5200 games.
Amityville315
How much to get that in a cartridge? Al?
SoundGammon
Archon was put on a cart, Adept is only on disc.

Amityville315
Cool! Great site. Lots of games. Anyone ever bought from them? Do they have a good rep?
CPUWIZ
Yeah, but way over priced. Al can make that for you for much cheaper. Do you want the ROM? I can probably find that for you, it has been posted in the 5200 forum.
Amityville315
Let me ask Al and see. I've been meaning to order Tempest, maybe he can hook me up with both. Archon is a killer game. Always loved the strategy behind it and the spells. It's fun to kill an opponents' top tier monsters with a lowly goblin!
Amityville315
Thank you everyone. I sincerely appreciate the help. This forum has allowed me to get the most out of my 5200 system!

Amityville315
Thanks again! Have you guys played this? Does it transfer well to the 5200? I hope the sound fx are similar to the C-64. The sound to the troll walking and the basilisk slithering were very cool. This game always reminded me of "monster chess" from Star Wars. CPUWIZ
not much of a difference : https://atariage.com/store/index.php?l=product_list&c=22 make your own cart ... I thought homebrews are always at least 5 bucks more, due to royalties. I thought 5200 carts are $25 for repros, which is 8 dollars less. No? Maybe the price went up, because it is getting harder to get shells for a decent price.

Amityville315
Yup, just ordered Archon and Tempest. Can't wait to play Archon with my buddy I used to face off against on the C-64.

Albert
Anyone have issues playing this on the 5200? I can move the cursor, but cant select the chess pieces.... I just tested the game on a 5200. The first player works fine, but the second player cannot select pieces or attack during combat. I tested this on a 4-port system, but I assume a 2-port will behave the same. Also, for the first player, you need to use the right fire buttons on the controller, the left button does nothing. Does anyone know who did this conversion so it can be fixed? Thanks, ..Al

No? Maybe the price went up, because it is getting harder to get shells for a decent price. One-off carts are more time consuming for me to make, as I have to setup the label to print (which sometimes is non-trivial depending on what people send me), test the game first to make sure it actually runs on real hardware, and so forth. Now, for these 5200 conversions, I have been making full label sheets and am building up a nice library of them. However, 5200 carts are a huge pain in the neck to prepare compared to 2600 and 7800 carts. I do have some new 5200 shells I am currently using, but I will be out of them soon. In fact, I will be releasing some new 5200 games at the Portland Retro Gaming Expo, so I have to prepare a whole slew of 5200 cart shells. Very labor intensive if you want to do it correctly (which includes scrubbing the carts in the sink with a nylon brush to make sure those "notches" are free from dirt, and of course the carts need to be completely disassembled first to remove the spring, screw and board). ..Al
+playsoft
I don't know who ported Archon but if you break where it reads TRIG1 it just throws it away: AEDC: AD 10 C0 LDA TRIG0 <--- reads trigger port 1 AEDF: 8D 84 02 STA $0284 <--- stores it in STRIG0 AEE2: 8D 7C 02 STA $027C <--- stores it in PTRIG0 AEE5: AD 11 C0 LDA TRIG1 <--- reads trigger port 2 AEE8: A5 0A LDA PCOLR2 <--- reads something else AEEA: F0 15 BEQ $AF01 I did a quick hack, replacing the LDA TRIG1 with a JSR to a routine to read it and store it in STRIG1/PTRIG1 and it seems to be ok. archon_hack.bin
