Atari 2600 Composite Mod Issue

I just modded my Atari Jr. Model for composite video, but I'm having issues.

The blacks are not showing correctly. They appear to be grey. I had colour issues, which I fixed by adjusting the knob on the left side of the console, but the blacks are still wrong.

I used the mod on this page. http://retro.mmgn.com/Atari-2600/Forums/Atari-2600-AV-ModI used the one in the first post by a user named brighty83

What should I try to do? Thanks folks.

Brighty83's guide is for PAL units ONLY. Do you own a PAL 2600 Jr? If not you need to start over and correctly mod the unit for NTSC. Otherwise we need more information.

If you're sure you did it right NTSC consoles - what type of NPN transistor did you use to amplify video?
