Replaced ED back-light on the display 5. Installed new Mylar keyboard inlay 6. Installed 16 MHZ booster 7. Installed HxC disk drive emulator 8 Installed Ultra Satan 16 GB SD card HD, Removed Atari SCSI controller and HD 9. Replaced all port covers 10 Replaced original Atari 720k disk drive What a joy it was. Hopefully it will last for some time to come. I would like to do a switchable TOS 1.04 and 2.06 but I need the modified TOS rom images for 2.06 to work with the Stacy's Shadow chip. Hopefully some one here might have those rom images Thanks Rob

Yeah, I have my dad's original 800xl (the first computer our family ever owned) plus mine..... and I bought it lots of friends. I still have my original ST's too (along with all their friends). I never got around to playing with my STacy much.... planning some upgrades at some point but at this point I think my project wish list is going to take three lifetimes to complete. tjlazer
Nice, I am down in Tacoma and I have one too. The LCD has some lines in it. Would I need a new LCD to fix that?
+DarkLord
It just depends. I had my LCD do that after I took it apart, a level further down than I should have. In my case, I broke the silicon connection in the screen. When I put it back together, I had several lines in the screen, Best Electronics (of all places) told me to go around the outside edge and keep pressing on it until it reseated. Never thought this would work, and it did take awhile, but it finally fixed it. I had to do it multiple times. Whenever you take it apart, just go around and make sure everything is making a good connection. (and do NOT take the screen out of that final housing!). Wish I could offer better advice... PS Anyone who has had a STacy apart understands the "pain in the butt" comment. It is super tight in there... I used Exxos simple booster, It has the lowest profile as to not have to move the power board. Plus I don't really have a source for a patched TOS to handle the Stacy Shadow chip. +DarkLord
I've only seen pictures of Chris's booster. I know from experience that he does great work. In my case, I had went with a T-25 board in the beginning, and that worked, but I still had to move the internal P/S board to the former battery compartment. Of course, I eventually wound up with a Pak 68/3 board which is even bigger. Very, very tight fit. Any tighter and I think I would have been reaching for the petroleum jelly. I've also got an Ultrasatan installed but I'm thinking about removing it and putting the latest CosmosEX in it instead. I've got Ralcool's 1.44 floppy drive upgrade in there as well. I'm curious about the shadow chip reference. Is there a problem with it and CPU boosters and TOS versions? I used the T-25 with TOS v1.04 with no problems and the Pak board has a modified TOS v3.06 in it. Thanks.

I bet it is snappy with the Pak 3. I really am happy with Chris's boosters. I have the V1 in the Stacy. V2.2 in my Mega ST and his STE 32 Mhz that I plan to put in my MSTE. The Stacy has a 38% improvement in processor functions and with NVDI i get close to 300% improvement over a stock STF/M. The Mega ST I get close to 500% improvement over a stock STF/M with the 2.2 booster, NVDI and blitter enabled. I put the Ultra Satan in my battery compartment and the HxC in the second drive bay. That way I can easily pull the Ultra Satan and use it for other things if need be.. With Chris' s boosters, you get a bigger improvement if you use his fast TOS versions. But they are not patched to work with the Stacy's Shadow chip, that's what I was mentioning earlier. That being said I have noticed the keyboard matrix getting corrupted after a reset on the Stacy with the booster enabled. Have seen that with the Pak3? I am still looking for a suitable color lcd to plop in the Stacy, found a source for bare lcd screens and and small controller boards with HDMI inputs, but that will take some more investigation. It was you that inspired me to fix my Stacy from your experiences over on the Atari Forum
+DarkLord
It is *very* fast. I think I'd also like to have one of the 32mhz STe boosters for my Mega STe as well. Will have to look into that. As far as I know, I've not had any issues involving the shadow chip. I've noticed that I can't do a "careless" reset. In other words, I can't just stab at the reset button and not have some things happen. However, always making sure that I hold it in for a few seconds (I usually give it a count of 5) seems to work just fine. One of these years, I'd love to have a fully working color display for my STacy. It really does deserve one. I think the STacy's are such great machines. They scream for upgrades, IMHO. Have to admit, I was fascinated from the moment I visited the Super STacy site. Wish there were more of them still around and more users were involved with them. exxosuk
Does STacy not have normal TOS104 in there then ? Don't know anything about shadow chips.. I only really work with STFM's not much else other than drifting into STE stuff...

I only really work with STFM's not much else other than drifting into STE stuff... Shadow chip drives the LCD. TOS 1.04 is the only version that is patched to work with it, Dark Lord has a TT version on his Pak/3 board that is patched and works. I read on Atari forum he had someone patch it for him. I tried TOS 2.06 awhile back just confirm to no avail. I'm sure if you plugged in an external monitor it would bypass the shadow chip and work, but I never tried,

I asked since you mentioned not being able to have Fast-TOS in your STacy.. If its just generic 104 then you should be able to use it ( if you have V1.5 booster that is). exxosuk
I don't have a MSTE. I don't plan on working on an other machines other than the STFM, and STE. I still need to solve problems on the STFM 32MHz booster project so that will be the only thing I plan on working on next year. In fact I did have a MSTE on loan a few weeks ago, I had the idea to tweak the PAL code to allow the CPU to enter 16mhz on ROM access, though the PAL code which I found online, didn't work right when I programed a new PAL. So tweaking it was out of the question as the code online must have been buggy to start with. In the end, I just thought it was more trouble than it was worth.
