Mats90245
Guy in my area is asking $250 for this and I wasn't sure if that was a fair price. He said the controllers worked and "rebuilt" 2 of them, but the last Trak-Ball I bought didn't work too well. Opinions?
bohoki
well if you do the math $3 a game $15 for each joy $30 for the ball maybe $100 for the system
jnice
$100 might be a little low (did he rebuild the joysticks with the gold dot buttons from Best Electronics?). It's a 4-port model system, which is the version to have, in my opinion. There are a few rarer games in there, too (Montezuma's Revenge, Mr. Do's Castle, Wizard of Wor). I'd start with an offer of $125 and hope to meet somewhere around $150. Good luck! Centipede and Galaxian with a Trak-Ball that works are really fun. Too bad the joystick coupler is missing for Space Dungeon and Robotron: 2084. Edit: If the seller says he rebuilt two controllers, you should automatically assume the other two joysticks are crap! Mats90245
I really appreciate the feedback. Problem is, he was asking $300 about couple weeks ago, now he says he'll take $250. I think it's still too high. He claims he rebuilt the 2 sticks before he purchased the working pair, if that makes a difference $100 might be a little low (did he rebuild the joysticks with the gold dot buttons from Best Electronics?). jnice
I really appreciate the feedback. Problem is, he was asking $300 about couple weeks ago, now he says he'll take $250. I think it's still too high. He claims he rebuilt the 2 sticks before he purchased the working pair, if that makes a difference So all four joysticks work? That's pretty good! Without knowing more about what's inside these joysticks that's currently making them work, however, you still might not want to start too high if you're going to make an offer. For all we know, the buttons could still be the carbon-dot type and the joysticks will inevitably fail again after a year of use. If the seller has sticks using the aluminum foil / tape improvement, that's good, but it wasn't an expensive fix (not to say I was ever successful using this method). If the guy invested in some of the gold-dot joysticks (or gold joystick parts) from Best Electronics in California, then I'd say it increases the value of what he's offering. BigO
Trak-ball is generally pretty easy to fix if it doesn't work. I wouldn't be deterred by that concern. Value-wise for the lot? No clue here. I bought all of my 5200s and controllers and Trak-Balls in a non-working pile, literally a few steps from the garbage.
AtariBrian
Nobody on Craigslist would pay 250 so you don't have to worry about someone else buying it for that price . What do you want to pay for it all ? Can you test it first in person ?

7800fan
So about OK deal compared to eBay but without the long shipping wait and risk it'd arrive smashed because the seller didn't pack the box at all.
BigO
For the sake of comparison, I see for sale on CL near me: "Nice 4 port Atari 5200. Comes with original cover and all cables; including the switch box. Has 4 controllers, two are new in box, and also has track-ball controller. Included are 11 classic games." $140.
Mats90245
Yeah. I found someone in my area that had some great games for $40, so I'm not gonna buy from this guy.
