johncena1973
About a week ago, my old SEGA GENESIS died. So i went to Ebay and got this one for $15, included shipping. It comes with the RF,adapter and 2 controllers. Not a bad deal, and the console play well too. But there is a thing that really bothers me. At the back of the console, the board was cut out, even though the console played fine. Yesterday, i borrowed my friend's Genesis to compare with mine. And i found out that his Genesis has the full board, none was cut out at all Is this some kind of clone? If not then why Sega had to do that ? Here is the picture of my Genesis: And here is my friend's Genesis : Edited October 4, 2017 by johncena1973
derFunkenstein
There is a 3/4-length motherboard model but I thought the bottom looked like the full length ones. Yours has other stickers which is strange. Check out this Sega-16 guide on different models: http://www.sega-16.com/forum/showthread.php?7796-GUIDE-Telling-apart-good-Genesis-1s-and-Genesis-2s-from-bad-ones MK-1451 is made by Majesco rather than Sega, which probably explains the different stickers. It must be a very-late-model Genesis 2. Edited to note that the guide says those are apparently somewhat better for video/audio than most Genesis 2 models, which is a bonus for you. Rick Dangerous
Possibly, but depends on video chip. It's more or less equal to a model one "high-definition graphics model. Good sound is the harder this to come by on the model 2s. Only 1 out of 50 or less Gen 2s are the 3/4 VA 4 models, so consider yourself lucky. Took me a few years to find one. Rick Dangerous
Sad news : When i tried to connect my MAJESCO GENESIS to SEGA CD, it not works at all. But my friend's GENESIS does work Try cleaning the ports (cartridge and side connectors.) Then just try to play it by itself as a test. Also---good chance it may need to be recapped. Did I just find a model 2 3/4 VA4 Its got the 3/4 board and its also got the square cut outs so it should be a VA4. I'm not really interested in it myself but after reading this thread I wanted to see how hard it was to find one. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Sega-Genesis-Game-Console-2-Controllers-and-10-Games-Bundle-/391907006551?hash=item5b3f7a5857%3Ag%3A6GoAAOSwwohZ4niD&_trkparms=pageci%253A420160d3-b68d-11e7-960d-74dbd180f1a1%257Cparentrq%253A402f10a915f0ab4d2c0e79e8ffff2473%257Ciid%253A5 quote from sega-16 "To tell the two boards apart, look for two square cutouts on the metal plate. If the cutouts are absent like on the console pictured above, it has a VA3 board in it. If the cutouts are there, it's a VA4. There are two different variants of the VA4, one made by Sega with the usual model number of MK-1631 and one made by Majesco with a different model number of MK-1451."
