Kung Fu Master compatibility issues?

Are there any known compatibility issues with this game and certain 7800 consoles? I just got a copy (the Absolute 7800 version, not the Activision 2600 version) and it doesn't want to work. It powers up fine and displays the Atari logo. Then it correctly displays the game title screen. But upon hitting Select or Reset the game seems to crash, the screen displays gibberish. I thoroughly cleaned the contacts to no avail. I think I got a broken cartridge. Too bad too, externally it's in excellent condition.

Do you have any other Absolute games you can try?

 

My original first copy of F-14 for the 7800 worked great for about 4 days and then it just up and gave garbled graphics when trying to play it. All my other games worked and my parents and I figured it was defective. We got it from Service Merchandise I believe and when I went to take it back, they didn't have any other copies of the game. So instead I exchanged it for F-18. That F-18 cart still works just great and I eventually picked up another F-14 many many years later that still works as far as I know today.

 

The point is, I found out later that some of Absolute's titles were in fact released on eproms instead of masked roms. So many of these games could show issues 20+ years later...

Do you have any other Absolute games you can try?

 

I have Super Skateboardin. Works fine. All other 7800 titles work fine. Harmony Cart works fine. Starpath 2600 games don't work but until now that was my only issue. I'm guessing it's a bad cart. I got it on ebay. Seller said it was "tested". Maybe they just saw the title screen and thought it was ok. I requested a return/refund. Hopefully won't have any issues with that.
