Can you help me name this text adventure?

When my parents bought my 800 for me back in '83, one of the first games that I acquired was a text adventure game (on cassette) that followed the standard hero-on-a-quest-encountering-wizards-and-magic theme. I loved it, though, and have been trying to find it ever since I lost it in a move...but I've forgotten its name!

I do remember the following details:

 

-much of the game takes place in forests ("you are in a beech forest...you are in a maple forest")

 

-you encounter a "surly knave" who kills you with a knife if you ask him for directions;

 

-you can explore a number of towns, the inhabitants of which are mostly sleazy and / or dangerous.

 

Does anyone have a clue what this game is?
