rasch_C
So, I am in need of a replacement BASIC ROM chip (MOS 901486-01) for my VIC-20. I have not been able to locate one yet (I actually may have at www.vccave.com, but have no experience w/ them). Investigating further, it seems as though I may be able to get a replacement eprom and burn the proper coding (assuming someone has a dump of the BASIC ROM code) onto it as a replacement. Is this correct thinking? Looks like the 24-pin eproms are non-existent, but a 28-pin eprom can be used by properly adapting it. I am fairly new to the concept of burning chips, but have been toying around w/ getting an eprom burning setup for a while. As I am new to this area, any advise is appreciated! -Allen
norm8332
You would need a 2764 EPROM, adapter board to adapt it to a 2364 and and eprom burner. The ROM dump is available on Zimmers.net (http://www.zimmers.net/anonftp/pub/cbm/firmware/computers/vic20/index.html) You could also make an adapter out of ic sockets here (first one shown) (https://ist.uwaterloo.ca/~schepers/sockets.html) but this method causes the chip to stick out further and hit the keyboard on the older non-CR 2-prong VIC requiring a notch in the keyboard bracket to allow the case to close. Or you could contact eslapion on here (http://atariage.com/forums/user/58008-eslapion/) not sure how often he checks his PMs here though, or on the Denial Vic-20 forum because he sells pre-burned 24 pin direct replacement EPROMs. They just plug right in. This may be easier and cheaper. Edited January 27, 2018 by norm8332

+OLD CS1
Not to shill, but: http://store.go4retro.com(2364 adapter) No, no, you cannot shill your own store, that is just blatant and shameless self-promotion I will, however, shill: I have dealt with and can recommend both vendors mentioned above. rasch_C
Thanks for the responses! Lots of good info. I think for now I'll try reaching out to eslapion on Denial (looks like he did respond to my thread over there). It will be quicker and simply for me in the short term (so many other projects). I am still interested in getting a burner setup and messing around with burning my own eproms, however. So, I will continue to look at the above links on that quest. Thank you, -Allen
shoestring
You can also use a machined pin socket and a bunch of wires. Here you can find the 2364 to 2764 diagram. http://www.lemon64.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=56192&sid=65bbb77a6169f6666e4a6f9f8853ee9e I had to do something similar with a c64 to replace a character generator rom. http://www.jammarcade.net/commodore-64-breadbin-repair-log-7-bad-characters-part-2/ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
