pseudografx
What? It definitely does run on a real Atari. It was run from a real Atari in the compo.
emkay
I'm not saying the tune sounds bad. But the amount of used hardware resources would equal to some digitized track.

Hardly. Yet again you have no idea what you are talking about. ?

No. It points to that YOU don't know what you're talking about. Using RMT at 4 times speed means up to 30 % CPU usage. Doing that with 2 POKEY means what ? 50% CPU usage allows a full digitized replay of any tune. Edited July 14, 2019 by emkay
pseudografx
So tell me, my dear emkay, what kind of magical trickery did I use in my tune?

Just full Ressource usage for some good result. The tune sounds good, but the cost ?
R0ger
Make your original song, send it into compo, maybe next time you can win too ? Yes, compo rules are not same as in-game music. Duh.
emkay
This is how Altirra resembles a real Atari... If someone provides a real recording.... please feel free to add.
pseudografx
You forgot to turn second POKEY on.

pseudografx
A real Atari is built to be easily expanded. Stereo is one of the most common upgrades. Anyway, this thread is not a discussion about what is a "real" Atari and what is not. Open your own if you want to discuss that.

Because there is a rule that everything has to run fully on a real machine. If your tune ran completely using one POKEY and adds features using enhancements, things were fine. But it is really NOT funny, to show a result on "better" hardware , while others do better on the real thing. You can delude yourself and you believers, but not people "from outside". pseudografx
Two of the three entries were stereo. Rules did not forbid to use stereo.
Mathy
Hello guys This is what I see a couple of times in this thread: "You've chosen to ignore content by emkay." If I'd want to, I could still read his comments. But your comments say more than enough. Sincerely Mathy 2 1

That wouldn't sound nearly as crisp as a PSG like Pokey. But I get where you are coming from. 4x VBI times stereo cannot be played during a proper game. But that's not the point of a music competition. You use whatever you can that's allowed within the rules of that particular compo. And this sounds pdetty good! But yeah, not usable during game play on a stock Atari. Edit: or: Well, in the context of a music compo, VERY GOOD! snicklin
I read all Emkays comments. I have no idea why, but at least it explains all the furore afterwards.
pseudografx
Just a little correction: the player is called 3 times per frame (as is stated in the song description at soundcloud), not 4 times. Mclaneinc
I just had a look at the thread to hear some nice music but I see troll boy has yet again disrupted a thread, thankfully he's blocked but some of the quotes and reactions can be seen and its not good... Music lovely, troll boy not...

Yes - as you mentioned, this is for a music competition. I don't see anyone complaining about Rasta converted images that cannot be used in a game, as the entire point is they are for static screens!
Mclaneinc
Exactly.....If its within the rules of a compo for music then its fair game...er music...er, you know what I mean 1
makary
PG, those 'filtered' leads work nice when played against regular pure instruments. No wonder you double pokeyed the tune. And that snap in the snare, yeah, shakes the room definitely. Majstersztyk
8Bitjunkie
PG, you are awarded by emkay. He always searches the best in one category and then tries to drag him down... so, best to ignore him and don't feed the troll boy :-) (Btw... many german Atari user call him "Mr. Tinnitus") Edited July 15, 2019 by 8Bitjunkie 2
