V-Cool
Hi all, looking to do some Lotharek upgrades, Ultimate 1MB, VBXE maybe so I opened up my computer to see what chips were socketed etc and clean up my case some and noticed the two jumper wires on the right side of the motherboard. I don't remember seeing that in any of the photo's of other motherboards so I was wondering if someone could fill me in on what the need was for that? It makes me suspicious. Thanks! Sugarland
Atari put them there during manufacture. They are somewhat common. IIRC someone here in the forums said they were 'busy work' to keep people employed but offered no benefit but don't remove them I could be wrong.

Rybags
For VBXE there's some prep work that can make the install better. Some people remove the RF modulator, it's personal choice & I left mine alone and it makes no functional difference but makes room for other stuff and you could use the existing hole, probably enlarged a bit for a monitor jack, One thing I did that allows the VBXE board to sit flatter - replace the capacitor 3 inches to the right of the bottom Ram chips and leave sufficient amount of lead above the board such that you can fold it down. For Ultimate 1 Meg, the MMU is replaced by a cable plug so needs to be socketed.
