birdie3
I now own a XEGS but have no carts to play yet. Could someone who knows more please tell me what carts are compatible with the XEGS? Thank you.
ApolloBoy
It doesn't matter. You can play just about any cart on the XEGS except for a few Roklan carts. You can also play most XEGS carts on the other 8-bits too, but some XEGS carts require more than 32K of memory like Hardball. So you can go ahead and take out all your old 8-bit carts (if you have any), and play them on the XEGS.
birdie3
I actually don't have any yet. I am now quite excited that I can play any 8 bit game on my XEGS. I have to start looking now. I also have something strange happening with my XEGS. When I turn it on I just get a red screen. Isn't Missle Command supposed to automatically turn on or something? ApolloBoy
Sounds like a bad ROM chip to me. You can get some at this site: www.best-electronics-ca.com

A2600
The XEGS or (repakaged 65XE Game Machine) is like any other Atari Home computer in the 8-Bit Line! And she comes with...yep you guessed it 64K RAM while compattilble with most of the software except those created for the 130XE which has 128K or RAM (I own one and Im not even sure of how much ) But yes if you have delt with an Atari Home Computer Before you wont go wrong with this one! And the red screen dont pay too much attention to that only if you inser a cart and it goes red then is a bad ROM chip as my friend explained above!! but yes you wont go wrong with that XEGS! DO YOU HAVE A KEYBOARD? I own: 800 600XL 130XE Just In Case you where wondering!
ApolloBoy
I dont mean to sound like a dunce but could you explain that a bit for me. XEGS is all new to me, thank you. Alright, now what I'm saying is that possibly the ROM chip inside the XEGS is bad. Now, open up your XEGS, remove the RF shield, and look for a chip on the motherboard marked C101687. This is the ROM chip that contains the XE's OS. It contains the OS itself, Atari BASIC, and Missile Command. What you'll want to do is order that chip from the site I showed you, pull the bad chip out of its socket, and replace it with the new one. Then, you put the RF shield back on, close up the case, and test it.
