Judas-Prime
Forgive me if this has been covered, but i was curious is there is audio/video test software for the Jaguar. Something I could load on my Jaguar SD and do some basic stereo audio sweeps to check the left and right channels...stuff like that. again, i apologize if this has been covered elsewhere, i did a cursory search and found nothing specific to my search query. Cheers
Zerosquare
Best Electronics sell a test cartridge which does basically what you describe, but I don't know if it's available for download anywhere.
+Mitch
Hopefully nobody will complain if I post this here. http://www.atari7800.org/jaguar/jagdiag5394.zip Mitch 1
str0m
I will give this a try on mine as I get little crackles in the sound sometimes, often at the same point ie in intro music. Does it on a couple of physical carts I have and the roms via SD cart so it is my Jag itself.
Judas-Prime
I attempted to use this Rom with my Jaguar SD. The Rom loads and then just sits on a black screen. So Im not sure if its going to work with the Jaguar SD.
+Mitch
It is probably failing one of the tests. Or it could be a bad dump though I don't think so. Mitch
+Mitch
Here's instructions for it that I found. If you ever get it working. Mitch
Zerosquare
The instructions mention an up-to-6-second black screen on startup, so maybe you just didn't wait long enough?

I just tried it again and waited a full minute....just a black screen. Could be an issue with the fact that the Test cart Instructions says that the Jaguar boot screen will be bypassed. This could be in conflict with how the Jaguar SD handled booting after a rom has been selected.....but I have no idea.
str0m
Same for me, just black screen
+CyranoJ
It gets stuck in a loop polling ASICTRL/ASISTAT/ASIDATA so maybe it needs something plugged into the DSP port?
+Mitch
The real cart works with just the cart. You can plug it into a serial port on your pc for advanced diags but it should work as is. Mitch
+Mitch
I think I figured out what is going on. I hooked up my Jag to the serial port on my old XP laptop, fired up hyper-terminal and checked the the advanced diag settings. It appears it needs to be set to "auto run" for it to run the tests automatically on boot up. The settings are saved on the cart's 93C46 EEPROM chip. I seem to remember that there was a way to dump the contents of the chip but I can't remember now how to do it. If I am able to dump the save chip you should be able to load it on the JagSD cart and run the diag, I think. Mitch

Mitch I wonder if setting the Jaguar SD to autoboot the SD card using this this rom would work. I'll try this when I get homer from work. +Mitch
No, I doubt that would make a difference. The settings are saved in the on cart save chip. Mitch
+Mitch
So, I finally got around to dumping the EEPROM from the diag cart. I think the JagGD needs a different file extension but I don't recall what it is. Mitch jagdiageeprom.zip
+Mitch
I was just curious if anybody was able to test this and see if it worked on the JagGD? I was thinking about trying to make one that auto-started at the controller test but if this one doesn't work I don't want to waste my time. Zerosquare
If you only want to test controllers, you can skip the trouble and use Matthias Domin's controller test program: http://mdgames.de/jag_eng.htm

Mitch I have a JagSD, tried it before as mentioned above but can give it another go with the eprom file. Just put it in the same directory? +Mitch
I am not sure what the correct procedure is for adding one manually or what the correct naming convention is for it. I guess checking the instructions would be helpful. Let me see if there is one online, unless you got one with the cartridge. Mitch
str0m
Put it in dir so will try tonight but doubt it will make a difference. The cart loads the menu on power on so perhaps the process of starting a loaded file is slightly different, you would need to ask Saint
+Mitch
I couldn't really find anything other than it needs to be in the same folder as the game. I am guessing it needs a specific naming convention. Mitch
str0m
Got it to work, I forget how I named the files, will check at work tomorrow. It cycled through a few single colour screens, ran a cybermorph demo then seems to have stopped at the screen with 7 vertical coloured bars, is that what you would expect? Ok just read the manual above, all works, parrot photo looks really good! What resolution is it? Will confirm file naming tomorrow
+Mitch
Saint posted the info in the JagGD forum. Same name as the ROM with the e2p extension. I'm glad to hear it worked. Mitch
