Bryan
Back in '87 I saw an Atari demo (an in-house production, like the Robot demo) that looked like it was in GTIA mode 9, and showed perspective-tiled floppy disks scrolling off into the distance (kinda like what "Shiny Bubbles" does with the ATARI name). Does anyone else remember this one? I've never seen it since. -Bry
Shawn Jefferson
Yea, that's the demo that requires a 130XE since it uses the seperate Antic banking. Of course it was hacked to work on other extended memory layouts. Hang on.... Video Blitz. You want me to attach a copy of the file?
Jetboot Jack
Got an ATR or executable of this demo anyone?? sTeVE
Bryan
Hang on.... Video Blitz. You want me to attach a copy of the file? Sure. I couldn't find it on the 8-bit sites I checked. -Bry
+Sauron
Oh, I remember that. I saw it at a user group meeting about 12 years ago, I think. It was either in our user group's library, or it belonged to our main 8bit guy, who I still speak with on a regular basis. I'll ask him about it and see if he has any specific info that he'd like to share.
Bryan
Hey, I found it (the 130XE version). Pretty nifty stuff. -Bry
Shawn Jefferson
For some reason I couldn't get this off of my disk, but I did find it on XL Search. This may only work on a real 130XE. vblitz.zip
Bryan
OOooo... pretty. Not the sort of thing you'll be seeing on the 64 (sorry, couldn't help myself). -Bry
TMR
Nah, the C64 coders just do the "floor" effect realtime in half FLI... =-)
Bryan
It would be nice to locate a hacked version that doesn't require a 130XE. I've only found the same XE version online. -Bry
Shawn Jefferson
In case you didn't know: Start and Option change the speed of the movement. Select removes/replaces the 130XE logo overtop of the floor.
Bryan
BTW.. this demo shows 8 frames at about 8K each (so there's the extended RAM), but if it used the main RAM too, it could have shown up to 14 or 15 frames (since the actual code is probably pretty small). -Bry
