tyranthraxus
So if you had to trim down you collection to a few games what would you consider to be essential titles that every Atari player should have? Mine: Adventure Asteroids Breakout/Super Breakout Frogger Kaboom! Missle Command Ms Pac-Man Pitfall! Q*Bert Space Invaders Video Olympics Warlords Yars Revenge Theres probably a few games that I'm forgetting but I think those represent some of the best games of the era. And they are all pretty common and inexpensive to obtain which I think is an important consideration too. What would you add/subtract? Tifany
Think id have to add: Pitfall II river raid galaxian But otherwise a good list! :-) I actually trimmed my collection down to the 50 games that i actually play due to serious space limitations in my new place. Wasnt an easy thing to do, but at least now all the games are in constant rotation! :-)
Nukey Shay
No homebrews?? How about Thrust and Marble Craze?
Brian R.
My ideas of essential (based on what I have): Combat Defender Video Olympics Breakout/Super Breakout Space Invaders Missile Command Asteroids Berzerk Haunted House Yar's Revenge Star Raiders Ms. Pac-Man Dig Dug Pitfall River Raid Kaboom Frogger Demon Attack Cosmic Ark Atlantis Activision games I would strongly consider adding to the list, if I could, include Fishing Derby, Stampede, Megamania, SeaQuest, Enduro, Crackpots and Pressure Cooker. All are games that are still fun to play.
Zloch
Hi Brian I agree with what you have on your list. I'd also have to include: Moon Patrol Starmaster (instead of Star Raiders) Stargate (instead of Defender) Tapper Robot Tank Millipede Joust Sean
JeffJewell
I definitely think Brian's right about Enduro's replay value... plus, there doesn't seem to be another racing game on the list, so far. Anyone ever seen the anime "The Running Man?" There's a scene in that short that just had to crawl out of the tortured dreams of a hopeless Enduro addict... surfnmadness
Multicart, at least one 32-1 if not one of the 255+ in 1 carts.
ApolloBoy
Asteroids Combat Defender Pac-Man (even though it's bad, it's still fun) Space Invaders Missile Command Yars' Revenge Adventure Frogger River Raid Star Raiders Indy 500 Warlords Super Breakout Berzerk Video Olympics Pitfall Ms. Pac-Man Kaboom Barnstorming Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back
King Atari
Xenophobe Secret Quest Phoenix Galaxian Space Invaders Mario Bros. Double Dragon Ms. Pac-Man Bowling Outlaw Solaris Pitfall! Ghostbusters Superman Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back Star Wars: The Arcade Game Berzerk Dark Chambers Popeye Q*Bert Asteroids Realsports Volleyball And probably some others I can't think of right now. Room 34
Some of these lists are pretty long. How "pared down" is this essential collection supposed to be? That said, here are ten that I, personally, would not want to be without (in no particular order): Yars' Revenge Phoenix Kaboom! Keystone Kapers H.E.R.O. Berzerk Circus Atari Adventure Space Invaders Solaris
Room 34
Oops... I forgot Video Pinball. And Dodge 'Em. And... well... a few others.

Room 34
10 games I couldn't live without: Pitfall! Pitfall II : Lost Caverns H.E.R.O. Montezuma's Revenge Frogger Seaquest Kaboom! Tapper Turmoil Tutankhamen Ben Wow Ben, not much of a fan of Atari's own, eh? When I was a kid it was really hard to find third-party games in my town so Atari and Activision were just about it for me!
Brad2600
My must have titles Bowling Megamania Stampede Enduro Dragster Pitfall II Tapper H.E.R.O Trick Shot Squeeze Box Gopher Probably a few more that I'm forgetting.
Pitfall Harry
Wow Ben, not much of a fan of Atari's own, eh? It's easy to think that from the list, but 10 is a really small number. If I were to expand the list to 20 games, Atari titles would definitely be on it. Warlords, Road Runner, Combat, Outlaw, Crystal Castles, Snoopy & the Raed Baron and Stargate were all screaming to make the top 10 but just barely fell short. MegaManFan
Okay, I just have to post a top 10 list now: Pac-Man Arcade Marble Craze Pitfall II Space Treat Deluxe Megamania Stargate H.E.R.O. Frogger Midnight Magic Centipede This list changes over time as I discover more games and more homebrews, but these 10 would keep me happy for a long time. Mr.FoodMonster
yay kaboom! is on almost everyones list =D sence i dont have a whole lot of games i cant realy make a list as of yet, but i have QUITE a few games coming in the mail hehehe
Room 34
Well to me, Kaboom!, more than ANY other Atari game, symbolizes the great engrossing gameplay that the best Atari games have, and that almost every subsequent "more advanced" game system hasn't been able to touch. MegaManFan
The funny thing is, I didn't include Kaboom! on my list because as much as I enjoy playing it, I find it too monotonous over long periods of time. The other games on my list have much more replay value.
Shannon
I dunno... I was always partial to maze craze and haunted house. But it's kinda funny cause I was just thinking the same questions. Which would be the bare essentials? I'm rearranging my stuff and am trying to decide what to make more "accessible".
tyranthraxus
Some of these lists are pretty long. How "pared down" is this essential collection supposed to be? This was not meant to be a top 10 list or best 5, etc. There is no set limit on the max. What I wanted to know is what other people feel are the games that they think that EVERYONE should have. The essential Atari that should be in every collection. So for a game to be on the list not only should it be fun game but it should also be accessable. In other words no Quadrun and the other big ticket games. But uncommon games are okay. Think of this as the games you would give to a new collector.
