ijor
Hi, I"m looking for a fully working STF US keyboard. If it is like new, or even brand new, even better. It has to be an US keyboard, and shipping is to the US. Thanks
bfollowell
How much are you willing to pay? I know a lot of people are getting tired of dealing with Brad from Best Electronics, but he has NOS U.S. keyboards for $99.95.
ijor
I wouldn't mind dealing with Brad at all. But $100 for a bare keyboard is not reasonable and I'm not that desperate
ParanoidLittleMan
Today keyboard, tomorrow floppy drive, day after t. some chip ... Well, I see on E-bay complete ST for some 99 bucks. And non working ones for less. So, I would rather get it, and then will have some parts too. UK and US keyboards are physically same, electronic is same. There is Eiffel. But if goal is look - well, that sport may be not cheap ?
bfollowell
Well, they're not exactly the same. There is some key placement that is a little different and the U.K. keyboard has an extra key. They do have the same "footprint" though, and the U.K. keyboard will work fine as a replacement, if you don't mind it looking a little different. +SoulBuster
I think another difference is the US one has the dollar sign and the UK has the British Pound Sign. I forget which key that is. The 4?
bfollowell
Actually, the $ is on 4 on both. It's the 3 key that is different. It's # on the U.S. and £ in the U.K. There are a couple of other swapped keys as well, and the U.K. keyboard has one extra key, though the key beside it is narrower than the U.S. keyboard, so the footprint of both keyboards is exactly the same. Also, the key mapping is controlled by the TOS roms. So, if you put a U.K. keyboard in a U.S. ST, it will work just fine, and all the keys will work like their U.S. counterparts. They just won't match what shows on the key caps in every case, obviously. I'm not certain how that extra key comes into play if you swap though.
