+DarkLord
Anyone else having any problems with the v1.2 internal Ultrasatan from Lotharek? It's probably me, doing something wrong but I can't seem to get around it... I've got a handful of 2 gig Sandisk cards and it's doing the same thing on 3 that I've setup. I'm using HDDriver v8.46 at the moment. I boot up with a floppy on my Mega STe, and do a minimal install on the cards. TOS/WIN compatibility, 4 partitions, around 4xx megs each. The partitions are C, D, E, and F. All seems good at first. 4 partitions show up, Show Info says they are the right size, etc. Then, when I reboot, the last partition "F", disappears. I add it back manually but then TOS says it doesn't exist anymore. Also, on at least 1 card (I've not tried the other 2) the last partition now E, won't hold it's reported size in space. Anyone else had these problems and if so, know what I'm doing wrong? Thanks. PS Checked the 2 gig Sandisk card I'm using in my STacy and for whatever reason I set it up as 4 partitions of 256 megs each, with only TOS format checked. It will boot up in the Mega STe with this card and the Mega STe's card will boot up in my STacy (resolution differences aside). Odd - I remember using the whole 2 gigs <shrugs>. So I'm thinking there's nothing wrong with the internal US, I'm just setting something wrong... Any ideas? Edited March 27, 2020 by DarkLord Spelling correction. ParanoidLittleMan
It is possible that they are fake Sandisk cards - so actually some crap quality. Should try with some trusted card, what worked well, bought it in some good shop ..
+DarkLord
Well, it's possible but these are cards that have been bought from several different sources, so...
bfollowell
I've gotten into the habit of immediately opening any new cards I buy, regardless of source, trusted or not, and running them through h2testw. Feel free to use your USB/Flash tester of choice. You can get h2testw here: https://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/H2testw.shtml

bfollowell
I bought two 256GB microSD cards from Amazon, actually sold by Amazon, not through Amazon, over Black Friday. One of those came in and wouldn't format to the full amount. I'm not sure if it was a counterfeit card or a defective card, but it helped me figure out there was definitely something wrong with it and Amazon replaced it. Now I've made it habit to check all my cards as soon as I get them so that, if there's a problem, I can get right on it. For me, it just seemed like a good practice. +DarkLord
Well, that's an interesting app. Card needs to be formatted first, and they advise you in the docs not to use it on a card with files on it already. So as you mentioned, good for new cards that you've just set up. Not so good for cards already in play, with lots of files on them. I'll be using it on any new SD cards I get. Thanks again for pointing it out.
+DarkLord
Okay, update. I went ahead and purchased HDDriver v11.01 from Uwe. The English manual will come later but I was allowed to download the ZIP file almost immediately. Using HDDriver v11.01, I was able to setup up a 2 gig Sandisk card with four partitions of 490 megs + and access them all with no problems. <shrugs> Still don't know what I did with version 8.46, but it's all good now. Thanks all.
English Invader
Just a thought, but why would you want an internal version of the US? I imagine that it would be a real pain having to open up the ST every time you want to add some files to the SD card. That's one of the main things that's put me off getting an IDE/CF for the Amiga. +DarkLord
Well, I've got a US in my STacy, which has the opening on the right side so it's easily accessible. In the case of my Mega STe, the hard drive cover houses the internal US mechanism, so if you leave the 1 single screw loose, you can easily raise it up and access the US, which has the card section pointed right at you. I thought about running a SD card extension cable to the VME cover on the backplane but it was posted that there are errors with the cards when you extend them too far so I kind of abandoned that idea. I can see where it would be problematic on standard ST/STe cases though. You'd have to modify the case to have access, I'm assuming most people use the floppy bay. You could use a Netusbee to get files onto and off of the internal US, I think? This is the approach I plan on taking when/if things ever return to normal. ParanoidLittleMan
As I know, most of people who using internal UltraSatan, or some other Flash card adapter (like IDE adapter with CF cards) have placed it so, that can replace cards via hole in case, made for that purpose. +DarkLord
Here's a picture of my STacy's US setup (sorry, not highest quality):
