toiletunes
I don't know if this counts for everyone, but if you're into minimalist music, I think Star Ship qualifies.

Yes and great point - I think minimalist music does qualify and can be very captivating in-game music like in Asteroids. I'm including Star Ship, Jr Pacman, Ms Pacman and even Pacman with it 's stattico rubber-band dot eating beat and in-game minimalist "ghosts returning to base" themes.
Mr SQL
Along these lines of thought I have to include BREAKOUT ? Watch this video carefully from this perspective and see; BREAKOUT is more than just a game or even a minimalist musical, BREAKOUT is a computerized musical instrument played by the player and shaped by the strategy of gameplay: Pong champions can specifically make music and even play tunes while playing this game - the player controls several color coded musical notes that can be played in different sequences once the player has strategically exposed them. The player can even program the board to create a passage to the top as is often done, where an algorithmic computer generated tune will take over until the ball returns to player control.

CreeB
I thought the Journey Escape music was mind-blowing as a 12 year old. Nowadays it's so primitive... but hey, we were easily impressed back in the day!
Video
Surprised marble craze (homebrew) wasn't mentioned. It has a main theme, as well as four full tracks that play while your playing. All I can think of otherwise has been mentioned.

The gameplay is pretty close too reminds me of Canyon Climber, I like ports like this that are different I've been playing Paranoid by @eshu a lot lately - this game is also a melodious tubular bells instrument where you create captivating soundscapes that make you want to keep on playing/emanating tintinnabulations! So far 50 classic Atari games and 11 Homebrews with background music... Edited June 24, 2020 by Mr SQL Missed one
TrekMD
You know, that's more than I expected from the classic games. There's always the impression that music in 2600 games is rare. It would appear that is not the case.
aramis
Kind of related, but since Moon Patrol theme music has been mentioned I had to go digging for this old 2010 commercial for Caesar's Place in Las Vegas...stupid stuff like this really sticks in my head, I guess... Background music sounds pretty familiar to me. Edited June 24, 2020 by aramis

+Living Room Arcade
4 Years Later @Mr SQL How about Rally Racer (More Work Games, 2015)? It has a music soundtrack that you can turn on/off with the color/B&W switch while you race.

YexxenBlaster
Nobody mentioned Snoopy and the Red Baron?? THAT OPENING THEME IS FIRE! Enough that I made a "full" version of it in my mind that I sing when I go on the Enterprise ride at Dorney Park.
