legolas119
Hi i'm looking for the best Atari 7800 emulator for PC. I read that a7800 is one of the best, is it true? Or do you suggest anything else? thanks
+SmittyB
A7800 and BupSystem are the best that I know of. BupSystem is a bit more user friendly for those who don't want to deal with MAME though my preference is for A7800 just because I've been using it for longer. Both are very accurate emulators. For convenience I can also highly recommend JS7800. https://raz0red.github.io/js7800/
legolas119
thanks! i tried both but I prefer BupSystem, it seems more user friendly. But I tried some roms but none of them work... I always have this message: Does I need a bios..?If so, do you know which is the right folder for it? In any case I also ask for support in the related topic of this emulator, I hope that they can help me
Trebor
BupSystem does not require BIOS files to run ROM images. Ensure you're utilizing *valid* ROM image files.

Jinks
As a gamer I would use JS7800 which is #1 in my book or Prosystem for gaming ONLY. Programmers would have to use Bupsystem or A7800 or real 7800 hardware via a multicart. That is my understanding of such things.
Glitcholog
Bizhawk is my favorite emulator when it come to the Atari 7800, alot of progress was made to support the commercial homebrew games.
nadir
I've used a7800 and js7800. I like a7800 well enough that I haven't felt the need to try bupsystem.
EmuDan
Is prosystem still being updated? I've had trouble getting some newer homebrews working and the sound seems a bit off. Could it be because it's the libretro version?

Could it be because it's the libretro version? The ProSystem emulator is antiquated as is its libretro core. Under Windows exclusively, BupSystem is a much better alternative with a similar GUI. A7800 is excellent as well, available for OS X, Linux, and Windows, but the GUI is less friendly. For something more platform independent, there is JS7800. It is nearly as good respecting console emulation as the aforementioned.

I actually just tried it on the Raspberry Pi 4 and got it working through Wine and Box86. It's just a tad slow, but otherwise it's working really well and I can probably boost the speed by just lowering my screen resolution. Not bad!!
