bookpile
Hi, I'm pretty new to collecting world of Atari. Today I picked up two "starplex" controllers, they have a wood grain front. Does anyone have any info about these, are they for the 2600 system? I can provide a picture if necessary, are they worth anything? What games did they work with? Any info at all is appreciated, Thanks Travis
Albert
I was able to find some information about these controllers, for instance, Starplex Deluxe Video Game Controller (1982)This gourmet controller was designed to mimic the control panel of the arcade version of Asteroids. It was also one of the first controllers to offer a rapid fire feature. Two AA size batteries were required. Here's a site with a nice picture of it as well: Starplex Controller ..Al
Rob Mitchell
Congratulations! You have two of the Starplex controllers! This five button controller works great with Atari 2600 games like Asteroids, Thrust and Gravitrex! (LRTF: Left Right Thrust Fire games) Plus it works great with "death from above" games like Space Invaders. With circuit adapters, it can work with all classic consoles including the Vectrex (Minestorm, Rockaroids, Gravitrex) and the Atari 5200! The Starplex controller is my favorite choice for classic gameplay. Go ahead and beat the hell out of it! I did wear out the fire button on one Starplex .. and I modified it to work perfectly again! They pop up on eBay occasionally for $5-$15. They come with either of two sticker overlays: Silver and Woodgrain. Made in Spokane, Washington. They feature autofire if you install two AA batteries (which I have not done). Rob Mitchell, Atlanta, GA
MrRetroGamer
It's a pretty cool controller. I think it maight work with 2600 Asteroids pretty well, have not tried that out. I know it can work on 5200 Asteroids and Meteorites if you hook it up to a MasterPlay. Also can work like a Trak & Field controller. Here is a pic of one I have, and two similar ones - the BC Blaster and the KY Fingertip (no joke) controller.
MrRetroGamer
Oh, forgot this one - the Faster Blaster. What a piece of junk this one is!
GrizzLee
....and two similar ones - the BC Blaster and the KY Fingertip (no joke) controller. I found one of these and thought it was a joke. For $1 or so I paid for it, I thought it would be worth having for the buttons. It looks homemade, rather than a production piece. Wierd!?!?!? -Lee

Tifany
The Starplex controller is way kewl! ive had one for years and for asteriods and similer games theres nothing better! Takes a bit to used to at first, but once your fingers get to know the buttons, youre ready to rock! And on track and field and decathalon it definatly saves wear and tear on the normal atari sticks!
