Wally1
or, lack thereof. So I understand the ST has zero latency which is a very good thing. All i know is when i play Rick Dangerous or Llamatron the digitized voice effects are very smooth and seamless. I like that. Remembering 8bit days like Berzerk or Whomper Stomper, the game must pause for the effect. And zero latency is for MIDI too, I think. Good. Happy Holidays and stay Healthy! ParanoidLittleMan
Thanx. Ah, and no zero latency - only very low in best case. Then, digitized sound play back is not something about what we use term latency or delay. Surely, there might be some delay in sound effects, but pausing game because of sound is actually related with CPU load during playback. 8 bit computers were just too slow for that - playing sampled audio via some PSG audio chip. ST is much better in that, but quality sample playback via YM chip is still high CPU load - just check Prince of Persia - with original YM sample playback, or with STE DMA audio sample playback. Yeah, latest one is 0 CPU load, because audio DMA HW does it all. Still, latency is not 0 - SW and CPU must start playback, what means first giving some parameters to DMA HW. It takes about 1/10000 sec - sorry, still not zero ?
Wally1
yeah though 1/10,000 of a second is pretty darn good. All I hear - read about - is how the ST still stacks up to modern day systems.
