Any new controller restoration options

So I am looking to restore a couple CVs and have done the basic contact cleaning on the controllers. They "sort of" do the job but I would describe the feeling of the entire joystick overall as loose. You certainly couldn't count on the precision needed for games like DK and Gyruss. I have some super action controllers and probably another third party stick or two but ideally would like a way to have something that at least resembles an original controller. Initial googling hasn't resulted in much. I see hacks of adding microswitches to the original PCB. Has anyone actually designed a new PCB that is designed for modern switches? Apologies in advance if this is a tired subject that keeps coming up for regulars.
