Gamedrive firmware update issue

Hi,

 

I updated to 1.11 tonight from 1.09 and the firmware shows at 1.11, ASIC 1.08, menu 1.06 and Stub 1.03. These versions of the menu and stub don’t look as they should. Also Cd games don’t work. I click on them and it doesn’t attempt to load. 
 

any thoughts?

The menu and stub have not updated… try putting the upd file on an otherwise blank memory card.

I updated firmware on my JagGD recently.  My JagGD firmware is now at 1.11, which I believe is the latest. 

How can I tell what the latest version of the ASIC, menu and stub are..?

@ls650 you downloaded the upd-file from the QR-code source (or the provided link underneath)?

The actual version numbers of firmware, ASIC, menu and stub are mentioned there.

@SainT I have this exact same problem too and I can't solve it. I have the original JaguarCD cart where there's no QR code way to update firmware. I tried to go from firmware 1.10 to 1.11 and while firmware seemed to update correctly my menu and stub versions are wrong compared to instructions. Instructions say I should have Firmware V1.11, ASIC V1.08, Menu V1.08, Stub V1.04  but instead I have Firmware V1.11, ASIC V1.08, Menu V1.07, Stub V1.03. I tried to put firmware update file into new blank SD card too but update won't trigger anymore. What can I do?

So how and where did you get the firmware update from if not from the QR code or the link underneath?

I updated my FW from 1.10 (initial CD support) to 1.11 a few days ago. The first try was just the other way round then your result. Stub and Menu were updated, FW and ASIC not!

But with that first try I used the link (saved as a bookmark in my browser) from the previous update (to V1.10).

After that non/half successful update I pressed Option again while booting... just to find a different QR code and link!

With that file the update process went flawlessly!

Might be a coincidence, as there was a half successful update with the first link... not sure. ?

 

So if you have an "old" bookmark for the firmware file, check the QR code (link) again, it might have changed!

I have the original cart that does not have the "Press OPTION to update firmware" prompt like SainT says.

Just updated to 1.11 and lost some JCD’s ?

What are the benefits of 1.11 over 1.10? I have the one when the CD support first started which I believe is 1.10 from back in April 2021 or so.

None currently, support was added for homebrew coders. It has not added anything beneficial for the end user yet until any homebrew has been written to use it. The issue with not updating the menu / stub has now been resolved. Grab the update again from here --

And if you have already installed and had issues, rename the file to firmware.ovr before copying to the memory card.

 

Once again, this file is only for use with the original carts which were purchased from myself back in around 2019. If you bought your cart from a retailer, this firmware will not be of any use.

I have also tried to update the GameDrive with QR code from

Firmware V1.09, ASIC V1.06, Menu V1.06, Stub V1.03

to

Firmware V1.11, ASIC V1.08, Menu V1.08, Stub V1.04

but got only the first two files updated without the Menu and Stub images:

Firmware V1.11, ASIC V1.08, Menu V1.06, Stub V1.03

 

 

Have also tried to re-flash the images by renaming the firmware.upd to firmware.ovr (I assume the *.ovr will force the update?).

How can I force to flash all four images again?

... I noticed also that the progress bar from the setup guide video was NOT visible during the update:

... for some reason the firmware.upd file was not renamed to firmware.ovr.
After I did that, there was a new QR code link. With this image the update worked completely.

Also the missing progress bar was visible with that.

Just to say I was going around in circles with this too, but what fixed it was simply to just reformat the memory card (fat32) and only put the 1.12 update firmare on the freshly formatted card - worked a treat.
