Room 34
Looking through my ROMs (which I have sorted into folders by company, so an across-the-board comparison would be tedious), it looks to me like the first 16k game Atari produced was Dig Dug. I am a little surprised that's a 16k game, so I'm wondering if the size of the ROM is always an accurate reflection of the game size. So... is Dig Dug the first? If not, which is? Also, were there any other 2600 games (other than Supercharger games) that were 32k besides Fatal Run? (And what is it, exactly, about Fatal Run that required 32k?) Godzilla
fatal run has a lot graphics in it, and high-res (for the 2600,) cinema screens and stuff. (you can never forget 'and stuff')
Room 34
I believe the correct term is "'n' stuff".
Godzilla
sorry, ill make sure to work on that in the future
Room 34
So... still no one has confirmed the main question for me... What was the first 16k game for the 2600?
Nukey Shay
I dunno...wasn't Burgertime released before Dig Dug?
Big Player
Well, the only other games that come to mind would be Millipede and Crystal Castles and both have 1984 on their title screens. Dig Dug is the only 16K game I see with 1983 on the screen. It looks like it is also the first game with the Super Chip. Not sure if it's the first 2600 game to use extra RAM. I would guess Phaser Patrol could make that claim.
sku_u
Wasn't it ET
Big Player
I dunno...wasn't Burgertime released before Dig Dug? This might be the one. On the Blue Sky Rangers page, it says Burgertime was shown at the January 1983 Consumer Electronics Show. Wow, 16K of ROM, 2K of RAM and absolutely horrid collision detection. I don't consider this game playable. Ugh, what a waste.
