I almost always use a 2600 console, but sometimes I'll use a 7800.

How about the Retron 77?  As well as third-party consoles like the Gemini and expansion modules like the ColecoVision Expansion Module #1?  Or even the Atari 5200 VCS adapter, although I doubt many people are using that. :D

I have an adapter for my 5200 as well.  Got it off Ebay on November 26th 2019 for like 60 dollars and 5 cents with a used listed for parts but fully working when it arrived Atari 5200 system.

I started using my original 2600 from the 80s but wanted to try modding a system for composite to connect to a better display. Grabbing a broken 7800 (the RF module was busted up) seemed like a great way to bring a machine back to life and leave my 2600 stock. The mod turned out just fine and I now use that all the time. The only thing I miss is the ability to toggle b/w-color for games that need it to be held for something.

Mostly the 7800, unless I want to play a game that doesn't run on or fit in the 7800

Focusing on the "fit" in a 7800 (emphasis above is mine), you should consider purchasing the Lock-On 2600. No more fit issues with 2600 carts in a 7800 console!  I have one and it's great. If you're interested, I recommend contacting the OP of that thread with interest as opposed to purchasing at whatever link is listed in that thread, as it sounds like he's considering switching distributors.

I mostly use the 7800, but here in PAL land the graphics isn't great and blinks for many NTSC 2600 games. I either choose to use the retron 77 in that case, or I'll get a 2600 out if compatibility isn't great with that either. The 2600 doesn't guarantee the right colours, but it does guarantee anyone with epilepsy won't have a fit.

So which games are tight in the 7800?  Or too many to list?  I wonder if I have any.

It depends on which 7800 you have. There seems to be two batches of 7800s. Some don't have a problem with any carts. Mine has trouble with Imagic carts and some red label carts.

I have literally never seen a 7800 -- they presumably received only limited distribution here in Canada.

I have not used original hardware in a very long time as my collection is still in storage (though I hope to extricate it this Summer), but when I did, I preferred the Gemini.

I never experienced any compatibility problems, and the diminutive size of the console made it appealing. I used original joysticks rather than those odd hybrid controllers.

I recently received a ColecoVision console and had Expansion Module #1 waiting...

That's what I used for Years!

When I bought my ColecoVision and module #1, my mom asked me to sell my Atari to my aunt...I'd eventually buy (and be given) replacement Ataris,  but I always wished I still had my original*...

*Unfortunately it's long gone as my cousin (May he R.I.P.) lost a storage shed which we're pretty sure contained my original 2600...
