jetset
Well....I won an auction for some games. I kinda thought they were pal carts, and the seller tells me they are. (I want them anyway though) Other than the collectible value....any way to get them to play on my TV? Or is there any type of tv that can play them? (NO Im not buying a new tv! But we have several in the house - thought I could try em each out with the unit) One of them is River Raid 3. If nothing else, I thought it might be cool to have. liveinabin
I believe a lot of TV techs refer to NTSC as Never Twice Same Color -because it's crap:) Being in a PAL territory is a mixed blessing, we get less games, we get better TV picture (a well mastered PAL DVD is a thing of joy)

Marco
Well, the replies so far have at least made me giggle, but it seems I am up doo-doo creek without a paddle. Can I expect the picture to play at ALL with a pal cart??? Sorry to have hijacked your thread (it's just a fun little war CPU and I have going on about PAL games). Your PAL game will most likely roll (unless you got it from Brazil, the PAL-M format they use overthere is very close to NTSC). If you have an older tv where you can adjust the vertical hold, there's a good chance you'll be able to play the game. Cheers, Marco
Marco
i think that's a plus having "only" 600 carts to collect! after all it would be nice to retire from collecting some decade! (25 years and counting) If only! You know that you'll miss collecting Atari 2600 after you've completed your NTSC collection (you're only missing some boxes, right?). In the end, the big thrill of collecting might be more in searching and finding, than in actually having. PS: i do love PAL stuff!! Nah, you don't! Now give up that boxed Pharaoh's Curse! Clock
Yes PAL has more lines and a better stable picture than NTSC but they have HDTV - our government said no to such things And DVDs are mostly widescreen so you do not get all that PAL benefit
Spirantho
[NTSC = Never Twice the Same Colour] To answer the original question, he can always do what I do - I imported a couple of WinTV cards from the states (got them off eBay for about $20) - thus effectively giving me a full NTSC TV! My Atari 2800 is permanently connected to a WinTV Go! and it works fine. Of course you need a computer but any should do - I use an old P200 with Linux. Of course you also need a PAL Atari 2600 - otherwise you get rather dodgy colours. I have about 6 spare at the moment due for composite modding, all Juniors. If you want one let me know. :-) IMHO no Atari collector is truely a completist unless he collects PAL too - there's so much stuff over here that the Americans are missing out on, and so much that is little known about. For instance, some people in the US still think that a PAL Atari BMX Airmaster is common! PAL rocks compared to NTSC but I wish companies made their games all run at the same speed as their NTSC counterparts....

Yes... only a few boxes. the thrill of having more time to play games will outweight the thrill of searching and finding games. PS: i do love PAL stuff!! Nah, you don't! MattyXB
Wow, I own too a boxed Pharaoh's Curse. But how does your box looks? Mine is so strange. It looks like a box from a video tape (only a bit smaller), and Family Video stand on the Cover. But I have seen more from these Boxed TechnoVision games with the same Box, so I think its a real box from this company. Someone in the past say, that the box looks different then mine (more like Spectravision PAL boxes gold). But I am sure, that then exist 2 differents versions from the box. There exist too 2 different versions from the lable. I have seen more with 2 Lables (front and back) and I have 2 with only 1 lable on the front and it looks not, that someone removed it. I've seen tons of those little plastic VHS style boxes that you talk about. They are just generic storage boxes. Have you checked the cardboard or paper that's under the plastic of your box? That should be able to tell you more. If it's cut from a box or a manual, you probably have yourself a home-made item. Another possibility, since you speak about one or two more copies that you've seen, that a certain German store put their stock of Pharaoh's Curse games in these plastic boxes. I've been looking for a Pharaoh's Curse box for ages, but I definitely want the cardboard version Cheers, Marco

Only by this TechnoVision games. And this 2 or 3 times. So I think these are real boxes. That strange, that always these TechnoVision games appear in these boxes. I know those similar boxes. On these stand Tele-Spiele. They have near the same format. But by these I have seen more by differents games and more common. And these Tele-Spiele boxes have no cover. But the Family Video Boxes have I only see by TechnoVision games. But maybe this is only coincidence. I have never see the other "real" box. Marco
I have never see the other "real" box. Trust me, the other boxes exist. In fact, you missed the one that Rick won on ebay.de last week. So they were sold in Germany also. Have you checked the cardboard or paper that's inside the plastic of your box? Check it out, it may give us some information on what they used. If it is part of a box or manual, they're probably not original. That "Family Video Boxes" now suddenly reminds me of a rental service we had in my old town. They used these type of plastic boxes to rent their Atari games. The cardboard boxes were obviously too fragile and wouldn't last long, so they used these more durable boxes instead. This could explain why you have seen more than one of these. Cheers, Marco

Cheers, Marco[/quote'] Its thinly paper, not from a box and looks not from a manual. I have too a manual for this game, and this is black & white, but looks like a real manual. The front cover looks good, but it was not cutted from a cardboard box. And at the site is too a thinly paper with the gamename. It looks too not cutted from a cardboard box or manual. jahfish
got one of these too ... i also guess they came from a rental store just like telerent used to rent ataris in the 80ies. the inlay is printed professionally though ... doesn't look like homemade either ... I agree, those professionally printed labels combined with the plastic boxes could indeed nicely add up to a rental store as the source of these games.
