El Destructo
I finally got a break from the day job and spent some quality time on the old Atari 8-gear. Awesome blast from the past #1: unpacking my "original" disk drive, a Rana 1000. Okay, it isn't the very same drive I spent hours with back in '83-'84, but another Rana that a fellow 8-bitter recently sold to me. Just hearing that "brrr-at" sound on powerup and seeing the LED numeric track readout had the memories flooding back. Wow. Awesome blast from the past #2: Fixing my original "development" 8-bit: a 130XE with 1MB banked RAM upgrade and Gumby mod (stereo POKEYs with external outputs.) Replaced the cartridge port, and it's just as good as ever! Now I'm ready to hook up the APE cable and dig into all those disk images I burned to CD-ROM when I packed this stuff up in '96. So, Tempest, I should have that "Disco Dirge" music disk for you soon! It's great to be back... -El Destructo a.k.a.
