rangers33
I'm currently trying to win the love a woman and recently during the course of conversation I found out she likes the 2600. I have one, and invite her to come over and play it some time. She says great! I say great! I get out the game from storage(been there over 15 years) to check it out before she comes over. The problem is when I hooked it up, the picture was very fuzzy and the only sound was static. Help a brother out. Any trouble shooting tips would be greatly appreciated and who knows, if things work out maybe you'll get invited to the wedding. thanks! joeybastard
If you're using a TV switchbox, go to Radio Shack and get a new one. Over the years it's the only thing I've ever needed to replace on a VCS. Now I just go direct with an F connector but since you're in a rush, go hit the Rat Shack. Room 34
Sounds to me like the TV's on the wrong channel. There's a switch on the back of the console to set it to channel 2 or 3. Also, with the auto-tuning that modern TVs have you might need to hit the channel again AFTER the Atari is turned on to get it locked in. Robert M
Both the ideas given above are good. You may be on the wrong channel. Or need a new switchbox. I have found an ideal setup that may or may not help you. I do not have cable TV or a TV antenna on my house. I have a pair of amplified Rabbit Ears for an antenna (from Kmart, but any department store or Radio shack has them). I use an F-connector converter from Radio shack to connect the Atari 2600 to the cable-in jack of the Rabbit ears. I then switch the rabbit ears to cable mode and set the TV to the right channel. The atari picture and sound are crystal clear. I was shocked the first time I did it. There must be some sort of noise filter built into the antenna to strip out the noise in the signal. Cheers! rangers33
Thanks for your quick responses. I greatly appreciate it. I bought a new switch box at radio shack but it did not change anything. I check the channel selects too and that was not the problem either. A friend of mine suggested that it might be an old RF cable that runs from the game to the switch box and needs to be replaced. What are your thoughts on it? Thanks for your help! joeybastard
It could be, you won't know until you try it. Good Luck

Nukey Shay
You could try moving the console around a bit, or unplugging electrical equipment nearby if possible. Or if you are near Minneapolis, you could invite her to join you at the Chatterbox pub.
Room 34
Or if you are near Minneapolis, you could invite her to join you at the Chatterbox pub. I never actually went there when I lived in Minneapolis, but I've heard about it. That's the place where they let you rent out Atari 2600s by the hour, right? Nukey Shay
No, I meant that they have 2600's hooked up right there. Tho you can borrow carts they have as well. They have a lot of old board games as well.
