Gazoo
80 80 40 Cool. That was the one that I guessed would be most popular as it makes sense. Unplug the 40 track drive once you've converted all your disks. Strangely, the 40 80 80 Roms were the most popular. Never quite understood why. Iwantgames:)
Yea I moved the big old TI 5.25 drive to a external housing (probably nvr use but looks cool ) and have the HxC in as DSK1 and plan on a 3.5 floppy or another HxC as DSK2 so it just didn't make sense to use the 40 80 80 lol
+OLD CS1
Are the 80 track devices backward-compatible with 40 track disks? Is it safe to assume that the 80 track devices are good for 3.5" drives?
+Ksarul
An 80-track drive writes thinner tracks than the 40-track drives do. That said, you can almost always READ a 40-track on an 80-track drive--but writing to it leads to disaster. It is best not to mix working disk formats for that reason. The 720K 5.25 disk drives and the 720K 3.5 disk drives are interchangeable as far as any TI disk controller is concerned (so long as it is 80-track capable). Gazoo
An 80 track disk previously used with a 40 track controller will not find the sectors on the 2nd side of the disk in the correct place when used with an 80 track controller. Let that sink in for a moment... So if you have been using an 80 track drive with your standard TI controller, you cannot accurately read the second side of the disks you previously created when the drive is connected as an 80 track drive with the upgraded TI eproms. The first 360 sectors of the disk will read correctly, but the 80 track TI controller will continue to read the first side of the disk until it reaches sector 719 (sector numbers start at zero) before switching to the second side. Most likely you will get an error at sector 360 because that sector was never formatted on the first side of the disk. The solution is simple, though. Connect one 80 track drive as a 40 track drive with the upgraded eproms and copy all your old disks from that drive to newly formatted 80 track disks connected as an 80 track drive. Then surely they would not have chosen the beige keyboards...
+Ksarul
Look carefully, that keyboard uses keys that are more white than cream--it looks like a high-performance version of the keyboard. If it followed NASA space-rating rules, it used gold contacts and circuit card traces throughout. . .
Omega-TI
Being that it's a museum mockup, they probably chose it for no other reason than it almost matches the hole.

This was the $25,000 keyboard!
+Ksarul
I often had to deal with space-rated stuff for a few years--and the product specifications were one of those things that were seriously stringent. They'd had so many issues with poorly soldered equipment items in the 50s that they went so far in the other direction on their standards that it became nearly impossible to meet them. . .lowball bidders had no chance there--especially if they didn't understand the extreme QC that every part went through on receipt. Kurt_Woloch
80 80 40 I liked to listen to the 80 40 back in the 80's... then I realized it was "AT40", abbreviation of "American Top 40".
Omega-TI
Look what the CoCo guys came up with.... << HERE >> (Photo ripped off from MARKO's gallery.) A variant of this would be GREAT for the TI-PEB as a SSHD.
