Atari 2600

Kaboom! - 182 minutes

Solar Fox - 341 minutes

I scored 10,311,600 on Solar Fox.  Rack 1-255 and Rack 1-230     I was so close but choked before I got the chance to roll it twice.

It took me about 1 hour and 52 minutes.

Wow.

That is a big Solar Fox score.  I have to go find my high score.  I know I never rolled twice.  I know I broke 8 mil at least once.

Now I am motivated to roll twice.

Congrats.  Great score.

2) Checkers - 10 minutes

3) Stellar Track - 15 minutes

4) Video Checkers - 20 minutes

I played hooky yesterday from work in order to go to a luncheon with my wife, so that lead to some opportunities to get some gaming in ;)

Sega Game Gear

Last Bible - 750min

Columns - 180min

G Loc - 20min

Joe Montana Football - 30min

Samurai Showdown - 30min

Last Bible is way better than I anticipated and consumed most of my time this week. And columns I wanted to high score challenge myself.

Here are my times for this past week of October 16th through 22nd on classic systems:

Commodore 64:

Traffix - 60 min.

Well, I didn't manage to stop gaming completely for this week, but I did stop playng the games I played last week (Taonga: Island Farm and Mergest Kingdom). I discovered "Traffix" yesterday while playing with FotoR, a site that "improves" pictures in various styles. For instance, I feed it a screenshot of "Safecracker" on the Intellivision, and here's what I got out:

image.thumb.jpeg.309135239268c0910edd9b7c5684e9b6.jpeg

This looks a bit distorted, but definitely more hi-res than the original version. However, as similar pictures, Google or Bing showed me a screenshot of the original Dutch version of Taffix, but I didn't use that to create an actual game since it would be much work to design a game which actually uses these recouces

Traffix is an early open-world game on the Commodore 64 which has the map of a city in a pretty complex fashion, contrary to Safecracker where the map is simpler than one sees at first glance. In Traffix, there seem to be meta-tiles in the size of 64x32 pixel (multicolor), and the map consists of about 128x64 metatiles, with the goal being to find six transmitters which are somewhat hard to find. There are strange devices scattered around the city... Sonars telling you how close the next transmitter is, Signal signs giving the general direction to the next transmitter, "Puzzles" which give you a small section of the map containing the next transmitter and Sonars giving you the distance to the next transmitter. I give a rough estimate of 60 minutes which I actually played that game because several more hours went into mapping out the city before I got to solve the game, which I made after a few attempts (some of which, unfortunately, ended in crashes).

^^ I know Traffix under its original Dutch name, Verkeersrally. Catchy music, though I never got anywhere in the game, partly because my Dutch is a bit rusty.

Alas, I didn't score any minutes of classic (or modern) gaming this week again. Too much to do and in the weekend I tend to recoup lost sleep (though technically you can't).

Odd week but I got some good gaming in.

Arcade:

Vulgus - 35 minutes

IMG_7459.thumb.jpeg.e9c3de3feb363b1b426a59c63a00e69a.jpeg

Capcom's rarely collected first game is a real banger.

Game Boy:

Solomon's Key - 35 minutes

IMG_7408.thumb.jpeg.121e36bc140af0156ded5e8c771d68d0.jpeg

Nothing like some mindbending block conjuring to pass a little time.

Game Gear:

Power Strike II/GG Aleste 2 - 19 minutes

IMG_7482.thumb.jpeg.500dae466417f6d44d3ce73aae70edcb.jpeg

I really need to fix up one of my Game Gears that has a decent screen.

LCD/VFD Handheld/Tabletop:

Radio Shack/Epoch Astro Command - 25 minutes

IMG_7379.thumb.jpeg.9b047b044b99b5c595afce566063ca90.jpeg

I had been slacking off in my tabletop gaming and this challenging and inventive fusion of Scramble with Space Invaders really presages the modern horizontal scrolling shoot em up.

NES:

Goal! - 45 minutes

IMG_7444.thumb.jpeg.666cc8d9a36d9a802e4019863380d088.jpeg

An entire season of heartbreaking defeat for Uruguay in which I scored only one goal.

Karate Champ - 94 minutes

IMG_7462.thumb.jpeg.c188dff63e7ac13d8bb090094a7015b6.jpeg

I was really shooting for 50000 for the high score challenge but only made it to 40000. I don't think I will play it again.

Orebody: Binder's Adventure - 18 minutes

IMG_7456.thumb.jpeg.8216e61054b43b022f4a2bea2fa0d669.jpeg

The free game of the month on Evercade. Feels very solid so far.

Week of 10/16/23 - 10/22/23

Atari 2600

Amoeba Jump - 90

Ms. Pac-Man - 90

Revenge of the Beefsteak Tomatoes - 90

Total time = 270 minutes

No Might and Magic this week! Instead I focused on trying to stay in the HSC finals, only to get an X in all 3 games. Oh well.

@carlsson - I've seen you mention this, but it is probably time to just post all times in the same thread.  Makes it easier for posters and then you can just share results from all eras in the same thread.  Perhaps Jan 2024 would be a good time to merge?

I have no classic time this week, but I find myself playing lots of modern games that are based on games that would be in this thread - example:  I am currently playing Escape from Monkey Island on PS2.  I kinda feel like I miss out on some of the community interactions by posting in that other thread that not everyone here reads.

Did something happen to carlsson?  Still no post of the weekly totals.

I think he warned us that he's been unusually busy.  I've seen him post in at least one other thread this week, so I know he's around.

I (think) I have the experience/ability to be a backup tracker.  Perhaps it is time to team up if he is really slammed.
