Tystick
What is the difference between the heavy sixer and a normal 6 switch woodgrain atari? are there any visual differences? Or is it just heavier?
Godzilla
the sides are thicker and curvier. and it does weigh more. http://www.atariage.com/forums/viewtopic.p...&highlight=sexy BIG SEXY
Retro Rogue
The first obvious difference at a glance is the casing is noticably thicker. Likewise, the heavy sixer (vs. the '78 six switch) has curved front edges and a groved gap between the front woodgrain and the base plastic. The '78 model has no curve, and actually has overlaps the woodgrain. The grill on top also has speaker perforations in it on the inside in the heavy sixer, as well as molded "towers" for the speaker backs to set in to. The heavy sixer also has heavy metal shielding encasing the circuit board, and of course a different design of board (though there are several revisions of the heavy sixer board). The back labeling is also different, and on some models their is an adhesive overlay on it for the writing instead of the later silkscreen-directly to plastic type. Heavy Sixer '78 model 6 switch Probably also of note are the joysticks - the original joysticks were spring loaded and literally used 4 springs for the contacts of the stick itself and a 5th for the fire button. Likewise, the stick grip is a heavy molded rubber, with a hex shaped inset at the tip of the stick where a small piece of metal with the atari name on it was set in. I have several of these with different motherboard revisions as well.

Retro Rogue
They were originally going to have a self contained sound system (a carryover from the pong console days), and it was decided to take them out.
