Atari 8bit - Using PSP-380 as Power Supply

I just wanted to share another home brew PSU option. I know we can build an XL/XE power supply from a USB cable with appropriate USB power brick.  Here’s another option…

This PlayStation PSP-380 power supply was found in an Atari 8bit lot I purchased. It seems it was modified to be an Atari 8bit XL/XE power supply. I metered-out the pins and they match the Atari OEM power brick!

Is this a common thing?  Has anyone else done this with a PSP-380 PSU?AB7BC593-9364-4A99-9AC5-5CFEF3CD044E.thumb.jpeg.3bd957786819fe1b800b8c22c9655868.jpeg

I compared the pin outputs/voltages of the modified PSP-380 above to this OEM PSU and they match.

Personally i have used old router power supplies (lots of older D-Links use 5V).  Any decent 5V power supply is going to do the trick... hacking up a PSP supply is as good as any, but I still use PSPs.

Definitely avoid cheap cell phone chargers and go for better quality 5V supplies... remember, the current shouldnt matter much as original Atari supplies start at 1A (I think).  A nice 2.5A supply is ideal if you have lots of upgrades and SIO devices to power.
