7800 to 5200 adaptor

Has anybody ever tried to chop down a 7800 and make a 7800 to 5200 adaptor? It was planned but didn't come out. I see people making portable VCSs and their own joysticks, has anybody ever tried to do this?

I would imagine it would be as bulky or more bulkier than the 2600 to 5200 adaptor

I thought that the adaptor that was planned was for making the 5200 compatible with the 7800 games :ponder:

Plus, if a 5200 to 7800 adaptor were to be made, if it is anything like the situation with the 2600 to 5200 adaptor, yeah, it would be one massive adaptor since you'd basically just have a 5200 sitting on top of your 7800...

As for whether these things ever made it to the prototype stage, I don't think that any sort of 5200/7800 adaptor of any kind made it to that point in development.

How about just designing a smaller case to stick the 5200's innards into?

I have yet to dissect my 5200 to see how big its guts are, but I bet with that huge joystick storage area removed, you could put it into a much smaller case.

The natural goal would, of course, be to find a way to fit it into a 7800 case, with just the cart slot cut bigger...

I was planning to do it at one time, but it was easier to just connect the 5200 and

7800 boards together into one unit:

I'm not sure if a plug in adapter could keep the signal s-video either, might be composite only.

And yeah, Kevin's 5200jr is pretty cool.

I think Atari thought of that, too. You should probably be able to find a picture of the Atari 5200 Jr. system somewhere on the net. I think that is basically all it was -- a 5200 with the controller storage removed.

I remember asking a similar question about how much space the guts took up in the 5200 and was told that they actually didn't waste a lot of space.
