Ppyo
Has any of you an Atari 800XL with this same CPU: 8302? I see it is made in China (RC).
_The Doctor__
it's still a sally 6502C the markings do not denote the processor itself Edited April 3, 2023 by _The Doctor__
Ppyo
Oh! I see, good to know! Thanks, Doc!
pseudografx
Isn't 8302 actually production date? Week 2 of 1983.
stepho
From the image, the part number is CO14806-12. As pseudografx said, 8302 is the production date.

I don't think all that much stuff was made in mainland China back then for Western markets. It was either Hong Kong or Taiwan.
ACML
Don't know what RC stands for, but it's not China. Look on the bottom of the chip, it should say Mexico. I typically see the RC marked Rockwell in 5200s. Anyone know why some Mexico made Rockwell SALLYs have the RC stencil?
+kheller2
See the 5200 FSM tech tip #7. RC Rockwell’s have a timing defect.
ACML
How did a glitched batch of 6502C meant for 5200 production (with required mods) end up in a 8bit computer? I believe the timing issue identified in the 5200 FSM is unique to the 5200, meaning those Rockwell (RC) marked CPUs should not have made it into the 8-bit computer supply chain. I guess the cannibalization of 5200 VLSI chips have introduced them into the available parts pool. I just bought one off eBay not knowing it's pedigree. Has that CPU been in your machine from the start? Have you had any issues with it operating (glitches, lock ups, dead screen)? No Issues that I know of, so far! <knock on head>
