Blabbermouth

Recommended Posts

Here's another ultra rare item dug out by John Hardie:

Does anybody know who originally produced the device and wrote the program? There is absolutely no information on this piece of hardware anywhere and even the former owner of Wizztronics doesn't remember anything.

When demonstrated at a users group meeting, the blabbermouth would record sounds and voices and the Atari could play them back at will with some different effects applied. It was akin to a sampler/sequencer on a surprising level for the time. The other item demonstrated that day was from another company that made a Voice Modem, it wasn't a modem in the typical sense though, it simply gave voice control over some simple things.

Some later MIDI keyboards would let you record your sounds and voices and play them back at different notes etc and you could essentially do the same or more using your Atari's midi box (wizztronics/hybrid arts etc) in combination with said keyboard

I actually created a sampler for the Atari, I think it was an Antic project (I still have the "contraption").  It was really cool, lo-fi 8-bit samples on par with my Casio SK-1, maybe worse.

It connected to the joystick port(s), using a POT, and did all of the A/D conversion.  I ran across the article recently, I'll try to find it.
