Hello

i see lot of people talking about the benefits of having the Ultimate 1mb in the Atari 800xl … but not sure to understand if it makes sense when having already the AVGcart because it provides memory extension too.

can you please explain ?

thanks

not really much point IMO as the AVG also provides a choice of OS too.
If you're heavily into SDX it might be worth adding U1mb but for a casual user like myself just wanting to play games AVG is perfect.
I do have U1Mb in my 1200xl and I do like it and for me it makes sense to fit it to thw 1200xl as there is no PBI port

Rather depends if you want to have a hard disk and avail yourself of all the software and firmware written to manage the partitions, etc. AVG is able to emulate the storage device (SIDE2) which operates in concert with U1MB to provide said HDD. If all you want to do is boot the odd disk image or cartridge, it's probably not necessary.

Yes, forgot to mention the SIDE driver, I suppose because it's usable only with SpartaDOS X and the partitions aren't bootable. U1MB provides a 'full' implementation, but I appreciate that half the capabilities may be surplus to the requirements of the casual user.

Hello

thanks for your responses.

yep, I forgot to mention my only interest is to play games :)

i just want to make sure I will get the necessary mods.

then , I thinks AVGcart + Sophia 2 should be enough then.

Thanks
