oo7
Anyone here try hyperkin troopers or rangers? if so which and what are your thoughts on build quality and lasting?
MrTrust
Have the trooper. Been my daily driver for a few years. By far less failure-prone than the old CX-40s and the cheap knockoffs. Feels good and doesn't have the obnoxious clicking of microswitch-based sticks. Wouldn't be without one now if I could help it.
+gnusto
Also use a Trooper here, been very happy with it for a year+
oo7
Thanks guys. Been eyeing these on amazon and been debating ordering a few but was on the fence when i read the wight is false and that there is metal plates inside to make them feel heavy, but if they are more durable than the real thing im sold. I too am not a fan of click click click Edited July 11, 2023 by oo7
Donald Dennis
I have two Rangers and Trooper. Well worth the investment. However, on the Ranger you have to have a separate module in order to get the paddle portion to work.

I have a trooper. It's OK. I didn't care for the mushy feeling at first but I got used to it. It reminds me of the old days when everyone had CX-40s in varying conditions and the best joystick was "the one you were used to." oo7
Mushy…. Maybe using rubber instead of the old steel domes. Havnt ordered yet. Maybe ill just look for NOS CX-40s or build my own using arcade sticks.
Hawkeye68
In this review video the trooper is taken apart around the 8:00 mark. IMO, there's too much "play" from point-to-point to achieve the fast control I need for some games. For many games it's OK.
Atari8guy
I also have a trooper - have had it for a couple of years now. I agree with the "okay to good" assessment - not great though.

I don't remember what it's called, but the paddle adapter for the Hyperkin Ranger is a small black box with two 9 pin controller ports on it and a single 9 pin connection that goes to the joystick port. Being that the old school paddles were sold in pairs that plug onto a single joystick port, it's just my good guess that the adapter box simulates the second paddle being there even if only a single Ranger controller is connected to it. adam242
I've had two Trooper II joysticks... I like the feel of them, very much like a CX-40, but I broke the first one within a week and the second within a month. Debating whether or not to try a third. The stick itself is a piece of plastic that screws into the base, and both times the stick snapped off right at the threads. I'm not a particularly aggressive or violent player and this makes me question the quality. Trying to devise a more robust solution to rebuild the one I have. chevymad
I too busted the stick off shortly after buying it. I ended up taking a bolt with the same thread and grinding the top off round to make a steel stick. Seems to work fine that way. Still not my favorite stick though..
