I am a brand new 5200 owner.   I also bought the 2600 adapter. It does not seem to work and a quick GOOGLE search suggests that it is not compatible with the 4 port model.  Just wondering why?

BTW this is a great looking system with great graphics

The 4 port unit was designed before the VCS adapter became a thing. The 4 port unit is missing some traces on the cartridge port that are needed for the video, audio, and power in order for the VCS to work on the 4 port.

That said, you can have the 4 port modified to be able to work with the VCS adapter. It was an official modification back in the day that Atari had official service centers to do for 4 port owners.

We went from the 2600 to the NES and i missed this and the 7800.  Both great systems

It's a great system. I have a 2-port and a 4-port. Enjoy.👍

@rietveld Welcome to the 5200 club from one member who has been with one for 40 YEARS!!!

BTW, you have a very nice setup with all sorts of consoles in her, and even an old-skool CRT to boot!!!

If you ever need to upgrade to a modern HDTV I have a video on a device that'll make all of your units work with her.

My 5200 ownership history:

OG (gloss finish) Warner-era (Atari, Inc.) 5200, serial no. 141101, 4-port - 1983-2016

a/v-modded Warner-era (Atari, Inc.) 5200, 4-port - 2016-2017 (sold her on AA)

Tramiel-era (Atari Corp.) 5200, serial no. 2056414, with a 4-port BIOS, 2-port - 2017-present
