www.atarimania.com
Does anybody have more information on the German game Plop by Peter Linke available on various sites? I tried looking for a clean copy as well as references to the program but couldn't find anything. Was this a commercial release? A disk magazine bonus? Thanks in advance for any help.
+CharlieChaplin
The program had been released on Abbuc magazine 31 (diskside B) as a regular disk entry (not a magazine bonus). Peter Linke was an Abbuc member back then and this was a contribution for the magazine from him. Commercial release ? Well, the Abbuc magazines are not PD, but they are not sold like commercial disks either... The program was released as a *.COM file with approx. 75 segments and loaded from the diskette under DOS 2.5 (and the old Magic Menu which could switch Basic on and off). Extracted the file from the ATR image and uploaded it here - but renamed it to *.XEX. PLOP.xex 5
Beeblebrox
Now this rings a bell. I think I might have it on an old disk from the 90s. I'll have a look.
+DjayBee
Haha, the screenshot shows "cracked by John E. of Aura". Whatever he might have cracked in an unprotected COM file...

Is the game compiled Turbo-BASIC XL or am I mistaken?

Is the game compiled Turbo-BASIC XL or am I mistaken? Nope, in the instruction the author writes that he used ATMAS II. And in the end he crunched the file with an old cruncher/compressor that removes zeros from a ML file to save a bit of diskspace. Attached the manual as JPG's, since I am too lazy atm to type in the text (in the old magazines the texts were packed, have to look for the depacker and save it as normal ATASCII text, but not tonight)... Used the Superpacker on the PC to create a Plop file with as few segments as possible (3 data segments: page 4, page 6, $2000-Bxxx and RUN adress $A800) and also a packed file (unpacked length 38.6KB, packed length with Exomizer 13.7KB). Of course this game will only work with Basic off. PLOP_few_segments.xex PLOP_exo.xex
