Holy cow, that is really cool!  I am guessing the communication between the cartridge and the PEB card is serial (three wires,) correct?  Or is there some kind of address space switching?  I really want to know how this works, now!

The GROM portion of the data bus communication runs through the PEB back to the console, instead of through the cartridge port, while the cartridge ROM data follows the normal process for accessing data in the >6000 range. Note that the chip they are using for the >6000 space is only providing 4K of ROM. It is the loader for the GRAM in the PEB, with the switch on the module protecting/unprotecting the GRAM memory. The 3-wire cable is just relocating that selected protection state to the PEB card.
