Tempest
Anyone know anything about this game? I know it's one of those unreleased prototype games that has been on the various lists since forever, but all the sudden it started appearing on some rom sites. Unfortunately its a .COM file and I have no idea how to run it. What is the game like? Who dumped it? Where the F did it come from? I've very curious about all of this. +Allan
Sorry, I don't know anything about either (love to try it) but if your using Atari800 emulator you can run it directly with the Load Executable File option under the Media menu. A very cool feature. Allan
Bryan
If you have it on disk, you should be able to run it from DOS. Using Atari DOS, you would simply use 'L' for load, then type in the filename. You could use an APE PC Mirror to do the same thing. -Bry

Randy California
Anyone know anything about this game? I know it's one of those unreleased prototype games that has been on the various lists since forever. I have it as RX8037. The game seems to be finished. but all the sudden it started appearing on some rom sites. What do you mean? It's been floating around for ages. Almost everybody with a disk drive has this game (I'm pretty sure I got it in 1984 or so). FYI, there are still HUNDREDS and HUNDREDS of tape and disk games that need to be "dumped". ++ RC ++

Callipygous
This story is from an old NG posting from an Atari programmer. Landon Dyer: "this project went about nine months before it was cancelled; it's possible that some development cartridges leaked [the lab where EPROMs were burned was one of the leakiest parts of the company]. marketing wanted a game that "didn't involve shooting." the game was designed by committee, a spec was thrown at a programmer, and the result was basically (and predictably) a disaster." Tempest
I take it the game isn't that good then. I'll have to ask Landon about it. Tempest
Randy California
Tempest, looking forward to the A8 section of your site Atari 8-bit prototype stuff is mainly uncharted territory, I'm sure there are treasures out there! ++ RC ++
