Steve Mynott
Since the death of Wirth I've been playing with Kyan Pascal (which is a lot better than I expected!). I've been trying to use it on a double density disk but the only DOS which seems to work for it is TurboDOS-XE. Does anyone know of English language docs for this DOS? Or can recommend another DOS for use with KP?
TGB1718
There seems to be a load of versions here, including the manuals https://atariwiki.org/wiki/Wiki.jsp?page=Pascal
+kheller2
I think he was asking for English docs on TurboDOS-XE. However, the link you pointed to does have this warning: "Please take into account, that the DOS was modified by Kyan! It is not possible to use a normal DOS 2.5 from another disk! The modifications (loading-routines) are moved into $480 up to $6FF. This is mentioned in the document in chapter DOS 2.5, but only there!"

It works with TurboDOS-XE (a recommendation I got from here) but KP uses memory over $2000 which means it doesn't work with many DOSes. I just tried with SDX (U1M), I ran the AUTORUN.SYS from the command prompt, it does need the "X" command, then it ran fine.

Unfortunately, the compiler doesn't work when I tried it under SDX 4.48 cartridge (old I know!) Also, when compiled, it needs to run from the % prompt by just typing "HI". (Note, you need the LIB file if trying this on another disk.)
TGB1718
Just tried with SDX Version 4.49G and it compiled ok, the program ran, but needed the 'X' command, makes me think the library files load high in memory. I also note that it defaults to D1: during save and compile, I did try D8:Hi.PAS and could save the file to D8: and the object files saved as HI.XEX which again worked using the 'X' command, however during the compile it still needed D1: , it was accessing, I assume library files etc, even though I have both disks on a hard drive partition. Maybe a bit of searching through the program to default to "D:" as opposed to "D1:" See below for screen shots
Steve Mynott
Grrrr I discovered one of my test disk images was in fact corrupted and with a clean one everything works fine with SDX as described above.
