No known issues with that game on the 2600+. Most likely just needs more cleaning.

try inserting it halfway. That makes contact on a different part of the contacts that might be less problematic

Nah looks like this cart went Tango Uniform (or there is something about the Telegames version that isn't the same as the Atari release). Either way I took the cart out of its housing.. cleaned the contacts extra nice.. and still doesn't run..

Guess I'll have to find another cart on the cheap.. :P

Do you have original HW to test with? That would tell you for sure.

I might.. I'll look in my garage.. the problem will be to find a screen I can plug into.. the console will likely NOT have an S-Video output.. :P

Maybe you've tried this already, but I had much better luck with Contact cleaner than alcohol.

Actual romchip death is unlikely, but not impossible.

I had previously bought a Jr. Pac-Man (much newer title) that had part of its banks literally die in shipping (worked for seller, partial dump for me with corrupt visuals even after extensive cleaning, sent back and same problem even on seller's OG 2600, who apologized, refunded, and swore it worked beforehand).

Space Invaders is too cheap to stress it, so just get another, even another Sears cart if you really like. I have a Sears Defender because I liked the red letters better than blue. Dumb detail, I know.

Just to close the loop - I got a 2600 out of storage.. plugged the cart it.. exact same problem.  Cart is fried.. rather sad because that's the very first game I got when my dad bought me and my brothers an Atari 2600 for Christmas.. :(
