800XL + Sophia 2 -> good DVI, black screen from AV socket over SCART

Recommended Posts

I have an 800XL I've installed a Sophia 2 into, which provides very good quality video with a DVI -> HDMI adapter. I also have an Open Source Scan Converter and wanted to check the AV output, so I bought a SCART cable from Cool Novelties on eBay (https://www.ebay.com/itm/325741116891), having been happy with their quality for other machines.

Unfortunately, while the AV output sync is recognized by the OSSC (it shows a 60Hz signal), I just get a black screen accompanied by a slight buzzing noise. Does the Sophia need to be configured, or is there something else I should check on the hardware side? I have an NTSC machine. Thanks!

I think the Sophia 2 needs to be configured , there is a utility for this as an atr file somewhere.
I don't understand why you would want to do this though, output from Sophia 2 doesn't need any more processing

Thanks. It's not that I generally need AV out, but I have the machine open and I want to check it's fully working before closing it up again. I read the instructions and it seems like both outputs should work by default, but I'll try the configuration tool.

I think you are right, It's VGA that needs setting as default analogue output is RGB. As you have DVI output working my guess would be the cable or the OSSC that is the issue
