Don Schoengarth
I have listed a 1090 XL Expansion System on ebay. The unit is missing the cover and has no cards. Other than that its in excellent condition. I have some other 8bit stuff listed too. check it out here: eBay: Atari 1090XL Expansion System
Curt Vendel
Don, Your 1090XL is gorgeous, good unit, well worth $600 which I think should be snatched up quickly. Just so you know your title for your Communicator package is incorrect, its 830, not 835. The 835 is the Direct Connect modem. Nice stuff, best of luck on your auctions. andy_bernstein
@Curt & Analmux - Crazy question... Looking for the ultimate XL / XE computer, the idea has been moving around in my brain recently. Basically, given the specs and the necessary drivers (for the software side), is it possible to build a compatible ATARI 1090 board if I go to a PCB board manufacturer ? Then integrate it into a PC tower with a hacked 130XE board ? Could be pretty cool but, AFAIK, it seems no extensions board specs is available for the moment regarding the 1090 (so the board could be simply useless). Back to work - AB. Tempest
That 1090 is so mine. BTW why are the covers so hard to find? Tempest
Mindfield
Out of curiosity, what cards are available for the 1090? Was it ever utilized to any degree? (I seem to recall a CP/M expansion of some sort)
Tempest
I believe there was a CP/M card, an 80 column card, a 64K memory card, and possibly a modem card of some sort. Tempest
Mindfield
Do they work, though? I mean, was the 1090 fully functional, or strictly prototype/proof of concept?
t.skid
That 1090 is so mine. BTW why are the covers so hard to find? Tempest Maybe because it was sent to developer as a proto, to test the cards, and the cover was first thing removed and no one put it back; you know, try a new card, remove it etc.. Tempest
Do they work, though? I mean, was the 1090 fully functional, or strictly prototype/proof of concept? Well the CP/M card might, but since there's no drivers for it it's hard to say. The 80 column card wasn't finished, nor was the memory card. The modem card is just a rumor. So the answer is no. The 1090 is useless as an item. Tempest

I will see if I can get permission from the 1090 creator and see if I can post all the schematics and drawings for the 1090XL and its cards, it would then be easy to reproduce, I personally started work with Chris Strong 4-5 years ago on making a combo 800XL-1090XL into 1 board, at the time we couldn't get the design finished, but it might be fun to revisit it. The 1090XL is totally functional, works with a 1027 power supply and had 4 cards readied for it: 64K board, 80 column Board, CP/M board and Parellel/Serial board. When the 1090XL was being built, 50 chassis with boards were made, but the covers were just starting to be made and only 5 or so were made, this is why they are so rare to find 1090XL's with covers. Bryan
It doesn't look like there's much to it, IC wise. I think the work that's been done with ISA cards is more interesting, since those can be found. -Bry http://www.geocities.com/dr_seppel/

As finished as can be for prototypes and are functional. The parallel/serial card was designed as well, although I haven't tested it or the CP/M card for the reason you mentioned (no drivers). Ok I thought they were just bare boards (the 1090 isn't my area of expertise). Does the 80 Column card work with anything like Atari Writer 80 or does it need the drivers as well? A parallel/serial card? Interesting... I wonder how hard it would be to write drivers for such a thing? Tempest
voy
Curt: did you ask designer of the 1090XL for its schematics? Or somebody has photos of both sides of 1090? It'll be great if reverse engineering of chassis would be possible...
