Atari 7800 joystick reassembly?

I took apart two 7800 controllers to clean and repair them. While the repair was successful, I'm can not recall how to reassemble the controller. The only part I'm stuck on is with where the 7 wires at the base of the PCB should go. Clearly it can't go where the joystick mechanism is or so I thought. I tried moving the colored wires to the left or right but it doesn't quote have enough room. I should've taken some pictures while taking them apart but this is the first time I've been stumped on controller reassembly. And I've taken apart a lot of controllers from different systems but the 7800 joystick is weird. Thank you for your help

Does this help you at all?

Yes that does help! I see I was putting it back together upside down. I don't have that metal v clip though on either joystick. Was that something you added?

I just snagged a pic from online, that's not mine 🙂

I didn't even notice the metal clip!

yeah i've never seen a proline with that clip inside it. I wonder if that was only put in place for the picture to keep the board centered when they took the pic? Otherwise, there is quite a bit of space for it to all move around and it might not have given them the right angle they wanted for that straight down shot? Just guessing here as I can't see any other reason it would be there or be needed?
